Have any of you blokes driving the 300wsm passed 1000 rounds. If so what throat erosion have you noticed.

I have a mate who has chewed out the factory barrel at around 1100 rounds. He is replacing it with a long stainless target job.

I'm curious to know how others are fairing.

I have never tried the 300 WSM but it has the potential to eat barrel if not allowed to cool between shots. I don't really know if 1000 shots would get the barrel but sure it would start to show erosion after that many rounds.  That is the trade off, when you have small bores and big case that burn lots of powder to get a small gain in vel. The WSM  are big game hunting round and that would be the only reason i would purchase one.

Macca,  has your friend been using that rifle as a long range target gun?  It seems to me that 1,000 rounds is a lot for a cartridge like the 300 WSM.   If I were to get a WSM it would probably be the 300WSM, and it would be used mostly for smacking targets past 300 yards.  (Sorry, meters)    Like Bea175 said, if shot a lot between cooling sessions I could see the barrel going downhill pretty fast.   I don't know anyone who has one, so I can't say for certain about the errosion.   What brand rifle is the one in question?

beal and GR, I know most blokes don't punch a lot of rounds through their big games rifles. He was shooting target in sporting class. The rifle is the Win coyote.Nice gear.I ran up the loads for him, both target and hunting. He has taken a couple of deer with it.

I know some fellas who have 2000 through target barrels on customs but I was wondering how the average user was going.

I don't know what load you are using but really slow burning powders burns barrels quicker than the faster burners. They take longer to burn so the barrel is subject to high heat for a longer time. Barrel are the price you pay for high performance. The barrel should last a little longer than 1000 rounds no matter which powder you use unless your friend pushed them without letting the barrel cool down.
