gentlemen -

as most of you know, i've got a cz m550 american in 7x57. i am going to begin some serious load development for it and invite any and all to check out the running thread as it progresses over the year. the culmination, of course, will be on game (deer and possibly antelope) this fall.

here is the link:

http://www.baitshopboyz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=12088&PN=1

this development is starting entirely from scratch. i've made some preliminary choices regarding components, but that's about it. feel free to offer any comments, suggestions, opinions or advice.

thanks!

ron

I have no experience  with 7X57 but have always thought, even though an ancient caliber, it to be about the perfect cartridge. It seems to me that it has not been developed to its full potential.

My only hand loading adventure with the 7 Mauser (sporterized K98) used OLD 140gr Sierra flat base bullets and 45-48gr IMR 4350.  The grouping size did not seem to change with the load development.  I used Remington brass witch has thicker walls.  At 48gr  the load was slightly compressed.  The accuracy was at 1" at 50 yards cause of time and the fact that I have open sights.  Hope this helps.

I am u/a to post/reply @ the site you gave but, I have a Ruger M77 I purchased several years ago.   As a matter of fact, I have one of the first 1000 M77s chambered for 7x57 when they were introduced 'experimentally' to test the buyers' reaction.  Mine is built on the long action and thus bullets can be seated to extraordinarily LOA with the accompanying increase in powder space.  My favorite bullet has proven to be the Nosler 140 gr Partion over a very healthy load of 4064.  I will not list the charge as it is above any published loads I have found BUT...I worked up to this load and I accept full responsibilities for the results I receive.  This load has been chronographed @ 2900+ fps but still groups into 1".  To date, it has accounted for 8-9 Tx whitetails and will be put to the test again day after tomorrow-      It also groups 1" w/Nosler 150SB, Sierra 140, Hornary 154-both SP and RN.  It has proven to be 1 of my favorite rifles.

Shot in a Highpower match yesterday (11-3-07) and there was a guy there shooting a 7X57 Mauser. He did very will with it 767 with a good X count. He was shooting 150 grain SMK, probably overkill for a 100 yard match. Should have been there it was great fun.
