It seems to do well with this combo, BBl length, case, and bullet.  The reloader 25 was just too slow.  Varget wasn't too bad but still had a a small flame three inches or so. The 2 was a fire ball.

Reloader 25 is one of the slowest powders and 4831 is not far behind. If your getting that much fire ball its probably not giving you the best accuracy. You might try something as fast as IMR 4350 or as you have already tried Varget which is a couple of steps faster than 4350. The flash is caused by massive amounts of powder burning after it has left the barrel. Its a good sign that you might need a faster powder or a longer barrel. Which is easiest for you to change?

Well I'm already totin a 26 in. BBL so I think I'll be looking into a faster powder.  I'm not getting any flash with the IMR 4831 ... But I'm not showing any signs of pressure and there's still some room in the case.  IMR 4831 till I run out of room start getting some muzzle flash or pressure signs.  If I run out of room and don't show pressure but get a dlash that means I can go to a faster powder right.

I would proceed with caution. Are you not getting the results you want with anything you have used so far?

thats why I'm here talking this out. this is the first load I have had to develop myself everything else has come from a book, this one has no book yet.

I like what I've seen so far but for what I have in it ,I want all I can get out of it.  Don't wanna run the race car on a half tank of regular gas.  I just need yalls combined brain power to keep mr going on the right track.  I'm pretty sure it'll take more at this piont.  No muzzel flask with the IMR 4831 no flattened primers no stickey bolt .  What else should I be looking for at this point.

I don't have any experiance with the world of wildcatting, I'm learning as I go.  The loading I have done has always been from a book.  I'm watching for popped, bulged, and flattened primers, feeling the bolt to see if it is harder to open, Looking at the headstamp to see if it is deformed looking for "Flow of the brass" ( Thats when the brass get so hot that it melts? right ) I may not be looking for the right Signs when looking for pressure and I don't know what case head expansion is. Please tell me what to look for before I destroy something or hurt myself.  I'd like to get it to its full potential.

Dang Scott, I just repeated what you said in the thread "heavy bullets verse light bullets at longe range" . Read this after. At least I know you and I think alike as far as reloading goes !

Compare and unfired case by measuring it with an accurtate mike at the head or the belt which ever is appropriate. If the fired case has expanded one thousanth or one and one half thousandths you have reached max. This only works with unfired cases.

Just got my a** handed to me by someone on another board and rightfully so.  I made a big mistake.  I got some data off of one of the boards I frequent and assumed it was a max or near max load.  With this assumption I reduced said loads in order to start low and stay safe.  turns out I ended up below what would be a recomended min. load.  Thats why I was getting the muzzle flash from the reloader 25.

So... PLEASE DO NOT USE ANYinfo I may have listed here I am no expert and am lucky I didn't hurt myself or someone else.
