Gotta agree bea that's pretty rare.
Boy, I wish they'd let loose of that recipe! Powder? Primer? Charge? I'd love to turn it loose in my 30-06 with it's teeny 20 inch barrel! Been having a hard time getting velocities up where I want them. Been using the tried and true IMR 4350 but now I'm gonna mess around with IMR 4064 and some Nosler 165 partitions. Hopefully I'll get something cooking!

Even with the short barrel , i bet you would get higher vel with the slower H4831 or Rel 22.

Hey Mountaineer..I agree with bea on the RL22..I know it is primarily a powder for true magnums but what I have seen in the 25-06 makes me think it would really accel in a 30-06 with a heavy bullet...

well saturday i shot my 308 and brother bea175 loaded them for me and i shot them and found quarter inch groups at center mass 3 inches high. the obvious reason why i set it that way is to lengthen my dead on to right around 250 to 275 yards. they were chronoed and they chronoed very well at 12 ft from the shooters table and i was getting 2847 to 2855 fps. these are the handloads that bea175 did for me. i then shot some ammo i am pretty sure it is winchester and the packaging shows it was made over seas but in the factory load i am guessing. the point of impact was 3 inches lower than the handloads and dead on at 100 yards. i have to admit i am a big time fancier of the nossler ballistic tip or the winchester supreme as well but that was factory loads.i want to thank bea for his giving up his time to load these for me and i know it will be hard to say good bye when i wear my welcome out lol. thanks bea man i do appreciate it

Good shooting rkinney.Your rifle definately likes what bea is loading.1/4 inch groups are impressive.

Beal175......I don't want to bust anybody's bubble but I once (4years ago) went into several gunstores in Jackson Hole, Wyoming trying to get some factory ammo for both my rifles. Long story! Anyway those shop owners up there at that time, told me they won't stock the "high-energy" ammo because it just doesn't group as well according to the results of those that bought the stuff in the past. One gunstore even showed me a target shot with regular 7mm mag ammo and the high-energy stuff. There was a sizeable difference between the two for fact.
Well, I am one that likes to find things out for myself, so I did buy a box of those Federal High-Energy shells in the .338 mag caliber 225 grain and a box of 180 grain for the 30-06 rifle, along with several other brands of ammo mind you. We left the town and went straight to the rifle range at Jackson, a great rifle range by the way and nice folks too.
Now both my rifles at that time (.338 model 70 & .30-06 model 70) shot rather large groups compared to the other brands of ammo and over twice the group size of the regular Federal ammo. I did end up using Federal's regular ammo loaded up with TBBC bullets and those grouped in at 1.6" out of the 30-06 and 1.8" out of the .338 win mag. The Federal High-Energy grouped 2.7 inches in the 30-06 and 2.9 to 3.10 in the .338 win mag rifle at 100 yards off the bench. NO HIGH ENERGY FOR THIS HUNTER FOLKS!

I personally don't like using factory loads but i tried the HE Fed 180 in my A-Bolt 06 and it grouped them under 1 inch at 100 yards but don't know what another lot # might do. I would use them if i had to but will be hunting with my own handloads 99.9% of the time.

Beal175......Yes, I too like shooting my own handloads, for one they are more accurate and I have more of a sence of dependability verses the factory fodder.
On that one particular elk hunt, my ammo was stolen from our sight, only really didn't realize what had happened until the following monday morning when it came time to saddle up and go hunting. I was using Barnes bullets back then and they shot 1/2 groups out of both my rifles. I had shot one hole groups before using the .338 mag rifle. Since that happened, I now carry along a steel checker plate lock box and use a logging chain to adhere it to the truck. I never lost anything before on a hunting trip but I guess there are theifs anywhere, so it pays to keep things out of sight as well.
