I know we have a fella from South Africa here on the board and a few folks who have visited Africa with big bore rifles.I was wondering what the most used dangerous game cartridge is.I figured maybe the 375 H&H or the 458 Win Mag.Just curious about it.:confused:I guess it pays to carry a big enough rifle when everything has cowboy catchers a yard wide and teeth 2 inches long..:sofa::wink:

I was thinking of taking my 338 Ultra Mag and neck it up to 40 cal. and have rebarreled. I believe it would be a good stopping rifle.

well most of the folks taht I know use a 416 Rigby or a 458 Lott . When I was over there my BIL used a 375 H&H for most of the lians game and used at 416 RM.

Most of the PH's I know use a 470 NE or a 500 Rigby.

When I got back I am taking my 375 WSM for the plains game and 458 Lott.

TG

By far the most used cal is .375H&H. mainly for the fact that its good enough for buff, and shoots flat with the lighter bullets for plainsgame.

I must say, H&H's 375 never caught my fancy. I think its because so many people use it down here. I like to be different:cool:.

A Cal I would like to see more used is the .425 Westley Richards. Quite a hot number for its day. with more than enough oomph for buff. Also very usefull is the 9.3x62 Mauser. Mild on paper, but always gets the job done!

but thats just me.......

after 9 trips I would have to say 375 H&H is by far the most popular.  PH's however seem to favor the 416 's.  I loading for my 375 H&H 375 dakota, 416 dakoda 458 WM, 458 lott, 470 capstick and 470 N.E. at the moment.  My favorite is the 470 N.E. if the going gets tough, but thats because I favor doubles.
