I just got a Tikka, T3, .243 Stainless, Laminated Stock to go with my Model 788, .243 Remington, which is still a shooter after all these years.  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what loads (projectile, powder, etc.) has worked the best for them (especially with the Tikka .243).  I like the Nosler 95 grain BT as a good all-around load.  Thanks for your help...

I haven't loaded the .243 for few yrs, but for the 90-100 gr bullets,I always got very goof accuracy ad velocity using H4831, but you do have to use an 18" drop tube to get all the powder in.

Loaded this for a friend and worked up to 37 grains and stopped.  Sierra 85 g HPBT with 37 grains IMR 4064.  Dime sized 5 shot groups.  First time I ever loaded this caliber and I couldn't believe it.

In my girlfriends rifle i have here shootin 44.5 grains of imr4831 with 85 grain nosler partitions and cci br-2 primers. This load is extremely accurate and she took an elk this year with one perfectly placed round right behind the front shoulder. It went all the way through and got both lungs. He went about 50 feet and dropped. Also for here to shoot in the summer and so its not quite as expensive i have the same load with a 87 grain hornady soft point for practice and such. Hope this helps Pat.

I like Sierra or Hornady 100gr. bullets over 40.0gr. of H414. Excellent accuracy and great deer loads.

I would start with IMR 4064 and IMR or Hod. 4350 with the Nosler BT that you stated you liked. My favorite powder for the 243 is IMR 4064. my favorite big game load for the 243 is the Swift 90 gr Scirocco with 36.5 gr IMR 4064, Nosler brass and the Fed 210 GM Primer.

I believe IMR 7828 is the powder you are looking for. Data is not shown much, but this powder makes the 243 shine. The Nosler # 3 manual lists a max. load of 47.5 grains at 3250 fps with a 24" barrel. I have chronographed this load in my guns - Nosler is telling you the truth. When you get the pressure right, you will see 1/2" groups.

35.0 Gr of 4064 under a 100g hornady bullet. A 3 shot dime sized group a 100 yards.

Works for me.

I have found that 39.5 gr of h380 behind a 100 gr. Hornady BTSP to be the most accurate out of my model 700

+1

The IMR 7828ssc meters well and produces tight groups with the heavier bullets.

I own a tikka t3 stainless lite in 243, i have loaded it for deer with 90 grain bergers, and 48g of h4831, it is a max in the lyman book but it is there best load and i will be well under 1" three shot group, most of the time all three holes are touching.

I use 42.2g H380 with 90g Nosler Ballistic tip for deer stalking here in UK and it's a very accurate load.

Most .243 rifles I've used won't stabilise a 100g bullet, my SSG ends up tumbling them. That's how I got into reloading in the first place - sheer frustration that factory ammo from my gunshop at $50 for 20 rounds was about as much use as a chocolate teapot...

I use 43 gr of IMR 4350 with 85 gr Sierra HPBT for small things and 100gr Sierra BT spitzers with 43 gr of IMR 4350 or 34 gr of IMR 3031 for antelope.

I used 46 grs. H4831 with a 100 gr bullet ,Win. brass and  primer..I always felt more confident with the Nosler partion in the 243 ,.this load was very accurate in my model 70 Win. With the low recoil and the great accuracy it was a joy to shoot.

Hi Texasboy 112,

I may be abit late to join in regarding your 243 questions with powder / bullets.  This caliber has been a favorite of mine since I was 14 (now 55) and all members of my family own one and have hunted quite extensively with it throughout the west and Alaska.  For many years our starting "pet" load for the 243s (mostly Rem. 700s) has been the 95 gr. Nosler Partition, with 41.5 - 42.0 grains of IMR 4350, equipped with Fed. 210 primers.   Generally set back .010 to .020 from the lans.  Though these are not the hottest loads, I still take the time to start lower (ie. 39.0 grains) and work up each rifle.  Therefore stay safe as we try to squeeze out the best load for each particular rifle.    Most of our 243s (n = 5) will shoot 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups most any day, and all have the occassional "all touching" groups when everything comes together.   I understand that rifle calibers / favorite loads are like Fords and Chevys regarding ones preference, but from our experience the 243 equipped with a 95 grain Nosler partition has generally dropped most of our mule deer, whitetail, Sitka blacktail, caribou, and dall sheep in their tracks.  However, we often hunt pronghorn in WY and about 1/2 of the antelope will fold while the others run 50 -100 yards before giving it up.   Therefore, we have had better success with the 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip on antelope.   Anyway, this is my first post other than my newby intro.   If it helps - good luck.    My best to you in shooting and hunting with your 243s.   Sincerely, Coyotehuntr2
