i've ordered the 7.62x39mm loading manual from dillon but found out they're 2-3 weeks back ordered & was wondering if anyone would volunteer a load or two for the cartridge.

i have a yugo 59/66 sks and am seeking a good hunting load using a 150gr bullet. i'm also considering the ~125gr hunting bullets that are out there, although there aren't too many to chose from.

I am expecting to keep shots on deer inside of 200 yards & black bear inside of 100. Black bear are iffy but not out of the question.

I use 31.5 grains of either H335 or BL-C2 behind a 124gr. FMJ as my normal duty load.

WE use Reloader 7 someting like 28gr, I'll have to check in the book again.  The bullet we use is 123gr Winchester Power Points, they work great on deer, dad has killed about 6-10 deer with his.  Meany were not "one shot kills, but most were dead on the first shot but followed up with a second to anchor them.  The last buck he sot was kinda head on he shot through the chest took out the heart and it penetrated inot the guts and stopped on the hide this, the total penetration was around 15-18" and retained something like 75% of its weight, not too shabby if you as me.

I've taken a couple of whitetails with handloads and the 7.62x39. Been a while, but I think it was Hornady's 125 gr SP and AA2230.

sniper-66, black-tailed bandit & Charley,

i just wanted to thank you for your responses. when i come up with a good load for my SKS i'll post it here for everyone. i just got it back from the gunsmith today. he installed a Choate scope mount for it. With the grenade launcher out front and synthetic monte carlo stock it looks really sharp.

Hodgdon has several loads listed in their online reloading data center for the 7.62x39 Russian with 125 and 150 gr bullets which should tide you over until your load manual arrives:

http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

I have felt a CZ 527 7.62x39 Carbine calling my name for some time now and I haven't given in just yet.

Bob, Bill,

thanks for the info. so far i've found 1 load that warrants more testing. the recipe is:

brass = remington

primer = cci 200 LR

powder = 27grains of h322

bullet = speer 150 grain hotcor -- diameter = 311

medium crimp w/lee crimp die

it puts 6 shots into 1 ragged 1/2 inch hole at 25 yards.

similar results (~ 1 inch) with 28 grains.

NEED to get to the rifle range and see what they can do at 100 and 200 yds.
