i don't have any experience w/ the 7x57 mauser - i think taz does, and i'm sure charley has a ton of it (he seems to load for everything else!)... but, i have found h-380 to be a great fit in my 8x57 w/ 200 grain sierras. i would bet h-380 would get you pointed in the right direction w/ your mauser, too.

Nope, I've never loaded for the 7x57. I have a small ring action lying around, and might get around to building one sometime, but it isn't on the front burner.

Sure, there are some of us that play with 7x57 Mauser!

Try :

162Grain SST Hornady, 41Grains of IMR 4895

you will get 2707  ft/sec

2637 ft/lb.

That is  about what I got in 24 inch Barrel (Ruder No.1):sofa::cool:

Re: 7x57 Mauser loads... has anyone worked up any loads using the new Winchester Supreme 780 powder? I'm using that powder for my .243, but I'd like to try it in the Mauser, too.

I use 145 Speer boat tails and a hefty charge of IMR 4350 and have great accuracy.

I have a wicked load for the 140 grain Sierra bullet but haven`t found a winner with the 162 grain Hornady.I may just save em and use em in my 7mm Rem Mag as an elk bullet if I choose to take the 7mm Mag instead of my 300 Win or 30-06 mountain rifle?????

I looked in the latest Winchester loading booklet and all they use is W-760. I'd hate to try and guesstimate a load for the 7x57 with 780 powder. I haven't used any yet. I do have figuratively speaking a ton of discontinued WMR and haven't figured out if it will work in the 7x57.

I've learned one lesson with Winchester's slow burning powders. If it works for any of my guns, they'll discontinue it sure as hell. :thumbs1:

They had W780BR which got dropped, then W-785, after that WMR, then WXR which I heard was nothing more than repackaged RL-22, and now Supreme 780. Woder just how long that one will stick around?

I just got lucky with the WMR. A gun shop in the Los Angeles area had a bunch of 8 pound cans of the stuff and I bought four.:thumbs: A friend in the area new the gun shop owner and got me an even better price. He even met me at the CA/AZ border to save me the trouble of going all the way to LA. We met at Quartzite AZ and had lunch.

Great powder in the .270 Win., .280 Rem., and .300 Win. Mag. and doesn't do too bad in the .243, 6MM Rem., .257 Bob, 25-06 but is the absolute pits in the 30-06  and .338 Win. mag. Just ask me how I know. I haven't tried it in the 7x57 yet, but may try some work up after the end of this month. I've got to load uo some W-760 and 140 gr. ballistic tips for my 7x57 this afternoon as I'm leaving for an antelope hunt out of state in 5 days.
