I shoot several M1As, and Win 70 in 308 Win as well as a Contender in 30-30. All of them I use spire point or BTHP bullets.

Top of the picture

The one bullet that I reloading and trying out is the Barnes TTSX, 168 grn BTHP. It works in all of my 308 rifles, This fall I will find out how good it will be for deer hunting. This bullet is a great bullet for my 300 RUM. These bullets are a little pricey.

Middle of the picture

The next is the Nosler Ballastic Tip, 165 grn BHTP, these do very well on coyotes and I have taken deer with it in WV.

Bottom of the picture

My favorite for range shooting and some hunting is the National Match 168grn BTHP, not the best hunting bullets, but for me it is the most accurate bullet in my M1As.

I am currently loading H4895, but wish the old IMR 4895 was still made. I am trying out Benchrest for a powder to work a load up with.

What "factory" bullets do you buys like to use?

Jerry

in the 308 i have had a real good run of luck with hornady 165 btsp.

most of my 30 cals run that bullet, but i have also had pretty good luck w/ sierra 180 gamekings in the 300 wsm, and i am almost through w/ barnes xlc 165's that i ran in the 300 win mag. when these are gone, i'll switch back over to hornady or sierra in that gun.

for your 308 loads, take a look at rl-15 and varget - great powders in the 308 win.

I tried a lot of bullets in my .308W, but definitely I'll stay with the Nosler Accubonds.

They are very accurate in my rifle and have an expansion at the modest velocities of the .308 I can rely on when used on a light animal as a roe-deer, but also on a 80 kg wild boar.

I even sent a mail to Nosler with the suggestion to start making the Accubond in .224 cal.

I'm using 168gr Barnes TSX, with 43gr's of Varget in Norma Brass. I am able to touch holes with 3/4" groups at 200yds.  I am using a Remington SPS Tactical topped with a Super Sniper (I know, I'm poor).

If you want to drive to NY, you are welcome to stay at my house. When I said I was poor, I was talking about my rifle. The whole set up with scope is about $900 total. I just got into reloading, so I am testing out the different formulas in the Bartnes book. That load appears to be the best, but I have not gone above that. I have heard that if you go to the max load capacity, the barrel degrades quicker. Any thoughts?

PM me about where in NY you are. I may stop by on one of my trips.

I have found that Max loads are hard on the brass, but in 308 not hard on the barrel. I do shoot Barnes bullets a lot and they are good bullets, but haven't seen any long term damage.

If your in Eastern Ohio, you welcome at my place, we have extra room, 100 Yard range. a nice reloadng bench, fresh food, ground hogs, etc, etc.

Plus my I building a small foundry, have a welding shop, Smithy and machine shop.

We have the right as citizens to defend the constitution and our country with all means necessary

The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution is a part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the pre-existing individual right to possess and carry weapons (i.e. "keep and bear arms") in case of confrontation.[1] Codification of the right to keep and bear arms into the Bill of Rights was influenced by a fear that the federal government would disarm the people in order to impose rule through a standing army or select militia,[2] since history had shown the way tyrants eliminated resistance to suppression of political opponents was to simply take away the people's arms and make it an offense to keep them.[3] In District of Columbia v. Heller (June 26, 2008), the Supreme Court ruled that self-defense is a central component of the right.[4]

I forgot to mention that Sarah Palin is very PRO GUN.

@XXMAA;

If you manage to let the authorities believe, you had to come to our hypocrite square mile called the Netherlands because you are endangered in your home country, they are supporting you with a home, a freezer, a bike, a job etc.

The company I work for has people as security guards in the places were those people must stay for the time needed for screeening etc.;

Some examples of being gratefull to the nice people of the Netherlands;

They get a package with goodies everybody needs when staying somewere, like soap handkerchiefs and for the men also a package of disposable razors.

One of my collegues over there got those razors thrown with force into his face:reason for this behaving- they were no original Gilette razors.

The dinner comes from a catering company, very good food, there have been times, I could not afford this food myself- food has been dumped on the office desk of the collegue who had supervision over the distribution of this food- comment "we are used to real food, we do not eat this sh!t!!.

XMMAA;

You are very welcome over here!!

Regards,

Paul.

Paul, I'm sure you would be welcome in this country. Despite our faults, I believe that we do have it best.

I can say this with a little knowledge, because I've seen more than a few other countries. Have not been to the Netherlands though.

By the way, I don't want to get too far from the original subject of this string, so I'll mention that my favorite bullet in my Winchester Mod 100 is a 150gr Nosler Partition..:thumbs:

@30-06 user;

Thank you for your kind words, at least a place to go to if this country gives me the feeling of being choked so very much, my breathing will be endangered!

I use the 165 grain Accubond to full satisfaction, and I will buy a thousand of them and use them stricktly for hunting.The partition is a good bullet, but I do not see any advantage of using partitions over accubonds, last but not least-Accubonds are a lot cheaper over here.

For training I shoot the A-max, a very good bullet for match/target shooting but I had a nasty thing when using this on a roe deer, so up to me no good bullet for use on life game

Are you using Varget in that load?  I've got some 180 Nosler BT and I'm needing some numbers on them.  I putting 43- 43.5  gr in them now.
