Since I am older thatn 99% of you, do not be surprised when I post that I am just now loading H-4895 powder laid by in 1977.   For Mil Spec 7.62 cases I worked up a load of 45.5 gr.

Just for eductational purposes, I cracked a new Jug of H-4895.  Guess what? The grain size has changed and that same weight of powder fills the neck!!
What this means to the handloader is that  when changing losts, do not ASSUME anything!  Start low and do a work up again!!   I now have one press and measusre set for old lots and one for the new---. Overbore

The new H4895 is green and looks exactly like Varget to me. If you examine the load data for H4895 and Varget the variations seem to me like the normal variation you get between lots of H4895.

In short, I think for all intents and purposes they are the same thing.

I take you informed word on that Sir, with appreciation; however, I am still working through my old powder and at this rate it will be 2050, when I am 125 years old  when I get to your green powder.  I do agre that the burn rates were close but close counts only in horse shoes, hand grenades and H bombs!!!  Cordially, Overbore
