I have more experence with this chambering than I care to admit to in public.
If you plan on using new brass or can effectively anneal brass, this is not the ctg for you. This wildcat requires a level of knowledge to use. Loading data you will not find and DO NOT USE THE DATA FROM ACKLEY'S BOOOKS. It is flat out DAGERIOUS.
You have to know how to set up for a feel contact with the shoulder as you chamber a round. That means a feel for bolt resistance as you close the bolt. It has to have some resistance to insure you have not pushed the shoulder back to far. A chamber gizzy made when the gunsmith has cut your chamber will be invaluable to you so you can measure the length, you either need to be good using dial calipers or a thee to four inch mic.
I like the round a lot. But if I was going to buy a top quality blank in 6.5 and pay to have a top smith fit a new barrel, it would make life a lot simpler to chamber to 6.5/.284. You really cut your time by more than half, brass is available from Lapua that will keep you loading for a long time. Dies are not hard to find in this chambering.

O5Sage, I don't have any experience with this round but it should be a good one. I don't know why it would be any harder to load for than any other. I had a neighbor who loaded for 6.5 Gibbs which is .06 based but with the shoulder pushed forward and at a much flatter angle. This wildcat is a little tough to load for but any one with experience will handle it easily. It will handle substantially more powder than an 6.5-06. Using 129 grain bullets Steve's Reloading Pages lists a max load for the 6.5-06 as 49.8 grains of IMR4831 vs 62 grains of IMR 4831 for the 6.5 Gibbs. With the long bullets and high BC either of these would be a good choice. RD Last edited on Sun Sep 21st, 2008 03:22 AM by Rockydog

i have had one for 15 years.neck and trim 270 brass, works well.load data is kindof a bitch.some out there is too hot.stick with pressure tested data. mine has a 1 in 11 twist.it wont shoot 140 gr at all.120's will only go to 3000 pushin it hard.

05Sage,
I don't have alot of info about the 6.5-06, however I do know someone who has a ton of info and knowledge. He's shot one for ages and has built one or two. I'll either get info from him for you or I'll get him on here to give you first hand info.
Take care Be safe Poacher.

John Barsness has written a good article on the E.R. Shaw Mk-VII 6.5-06 in the current issue of Handloader magazine. It's issue #255, October, 2008.

O5Sage,
Have you given any thought to maybe a 280 Ackley? Hard to beat and easier to load for. Just a thought.

the only thing hard about loading the 6.5/06 is the lack of pressure tested data.270 cases necked down and trimmed are a no brainer.
