Sometime this Spring, Summer at the very latest, I'll be starting up a small bullet-swaging outfit. It is intended to work hand-in-hand with my small machine shop producing various shooting and reloading gizmos.
One of the bullets on the "must do" list is a copy of the Ruag 175g .30 cal slug used in Swiss GP-11 ammo- minus all the complex Armor-Piercing layers and construction, of course. The K31 series of rifles have a fairly short throat meant to handle very long, tapered FMJ slugs. "My" bullet will clone these dimensions- same profile, Center-of-mass, ogive shape, etc. This will give handloaders a chance to duplicate GP-11 far cheaper.
How do you guys feel about having a rebated boat tail on these, instead of a standard boattail? Many advantages to a rebated BT-ask around. Or visit Corbin's site. But I won't mess with the desires of The People- you get what you want.
Another Must Do is 140g, flat-base, .30 FMJ that is a clone of the French military 7.5x54 MAS bullet. Once again, these are set up for the MAS 49/56 semi-auto crowd who are tired of using US FMJ style. The French rifles were not set up for this slug- especially the 49 and 49/56 rifles, whose gas pressure curve is designed for a 139g bullet and a specific burn curve. True, most of the time there is no huge problem using US FMJ, but at the very least you're loosing accuracy and probably eroding the throat, too. The 49's, I know, can be damned accurate rifles, if fed the proper fodder. So- I make 'em. "For Perfectionists Only", maybe, but until we have a reliable source for Prvi's 139g FMJ's I know of no other slug that fills that niche.......not FMJ's, anyway.
What's my kick with FMJ? The noses don't get mashed on feed ramps. Or less so than any other. Nobody is going to tell me that a mashed nose has the same supersonic drag profile as a "good" nose. Old Man Physics has the last word on this one. So I make FMJ. Also, all my bullets will have induction-hardened noses to prevent any deformation at all. Soft shanks, though, to go easy on the bores.
And all surplus mil rifles are specifically designed for 'em. And they can be made cheaply, if you have the gear.
OK, I'm ready to get thrashed. Any suggestions for other mil-style bullets?

Can you send me a PM, or better, an e-mail?
I only can answer tomorrow- bedtime for me- nightshift.
Regards,Paul.

I'll be placing ads in Handloader magazine when I'm up to full production, and posting here, too, of course.
The price for the Swiss Ruag copies should be around $33/100, the 140g MAS bullets about $32/100, based on current materials prices.
There has been plenty of interest in these two bullet styles to cover my costs.
If anybody has any last-minute thoughts on some other type FMJ that needs making, please let me know. At the very least, I can get a quote from Corbin about the price for the dies.........which represent a pretty significant investment. And up to a year's lead time to have made, FYI.
Like I said, I'm trying to specialize in mil-style FMJ w/ rebated boattails, some style that just can't be had any other way.............
