Being a NewGuy, I'd like to find out how many French MAS shooters we have on the board. Favorite loads, rifle comments, whatever.
Thanks!

| I load it for a MAS 36 and a 49/56. Good shooters, and well made rifles. The 36 is a good cast bullet shooter as well. Don't have my load data handy right now, I'm at work.

| 6.5x55 brass necked up (started loading it before Graf's 7.5 brass was available), 150 grain FMJBT or SP, and 39 grains of IMR-4895. For the 49/56, CCI 34 primers are a must, that slamfire when chambering a round will scare the heck out of you!

Speaking of MAS slam-fires.................
About two years ago I decided to use my talents (HA!) to find a cure for this nasty problem once and for all.
Using my Wife's MAS 49/56, I spent many, many shop-hours trying to find a simple, low-cost solution that any MAS owner could do for themselves, without resorting to a gunsmith or machine shop. I spent about 6 months on and off, using a lot of my own shop time, sending lead down range. The little hill that serves as our 100-meter range back-stop must be considered a prime resource for lead and copper mining! That's how much testing I did.
Turns out that Murphy works overtime!
The cheap, low-cost solution cured about 85% of the slam-fires, using the stock military firing pin and the most sensitive primers I know about, which is Winchester. Low-cost, yes, but not a 100% solution.
To cure the problem completely and permanently required machining the MAS bolt to fit a small firing-pin return spring. Two years steady shooting and nary a problem, including shooting in sub-zero Minnesota weather*, where you can expect a firing pin spring to give you trouble. (The French military engineers removed the spring from the MAS 49 design to eliminate this problem in the 49/56, so I'm told).
Shooting the MAS 49/56 is a joy knowing that there will never be a chance of Rock-n-Roll embarassing you on the range! Not to mention the unwanted attention of the creepy-crawlies of the BATFE sort..........
So besides the FYI fluff, does anybody think this kind of shop work would be something MAS fans would pay for?
Based on my shop-time logs, it would cost a customer about $60.00 to have this done, which includes a spare spring and a 100% warantee/guarantee. (My shop was founded specifically to put the price-gouging types into Chapter 13)
What's the opinions, here?

| I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few who play with that rifle and caliber around here. I've looked at the titanium aftermarket firing pins, a couple of conversions to the bolt/pin where a spring is added, and some other stuff. I'll just use CCI 34s to prime with, haven't had a slamfire since I went to milspec primers. Have you tried the French Firearms Board at Gunboards?

That forum was my first "market test". Many a post did I post on MAS-related stuff over the last two years over there.......
I just thought I might pick up a few more suggestions from this forum.
