Hey Guys,
I am looking at purchasing the 257 Ackley Improved for my Thompson Center Encore Prohunter. The 24 or 26 inch barrel length are what I am looking into but 28 would be great (but it doesn't come in that barrel length).
What do you guys think?
I want honest insights, alternate rounds and good reasons why.
Help me out.

I too am just starting to reload for my 257 Ackley Improved. I used a Winchester controlled round feed to a 257 AI Featherweight. So far it has impressed me the load I am using pus factory fodder is ~1 most on the minus side. When I get some more real load development done I'll post it. Mr. Ackley rocks.

You want the real story on the .257 AI? It is most likely to be your absolute favorite ctg of all time. There is only one other ctg that has been AI'd that shows that much gain over the factory chambering. That is the .250-3000. Ina light weight rifle with a good barrel either of these two ctgs may just be the love of your life. The hard part, is finding really good brass for them. Remington brass is just one step above not having any brass atoll. WINCHESTER brass is hard to find. One thing that really helps these cases is to buy a neck size only die. A couple of hundred rounds if neck sized only and the brass is fully formed, will last you along time.

i have the 7x57 ackley improved it has to be the largest gain over factory ammo i have ever seen in a rifle.
the 257 improved is a good one also. to fire form win brass it usually takes two firings. the remington brass is more accurate in mine.
you can use win +p brass if you want also it just has a bit less case capacity than regular brass.
your velocities will be around the 25-06 area. and so will your powder amounts.
and neck sizing is the way to go.

you can order about anything you want from match grade machine
http://www.matchgrademachine.com/
they have a nice forum also and the people who build your barrel correspond on the forum as well. this is nice because you can throw alot of ideas out amongst the TC crowd and get some good feedback.
