Here is a link to Vv loads for the .308 BOLT GUN with reuslts tabulated
http://www.accuratereloading.com/308win.html
These are not gas gun loads but may be used as a reference point for velocity nodes fo the bullet you may wish to use. Best wishes, Overbore

Have you tried Varget wit 168 gr BTHP's ??? I'd be interested in the results.
I use it in AR10B: 41.6 Varget with 168gr Hornady BTHP but can't get the accuracy you can. I can't mount a scope because of the upside-down charging trigger, so I have to use the stock peep sight. The pattern isn't bad, about 2" at 300 yds, I wasn't too happy with anything under 168 because the lower weights seemed the "fly with the wind" at anything more than 20mph.

My good opinion of Varget is based upon .3's accuracy with 155gr S BTHP Palma's. I do not suggest 168's as gthey ten to be too different in weights and lenghts. Overbore

I am a kind of lucky I guess; Vv powders are the only ones available to me on a regular basis, not bad though.

Well, what is better; having the abillity to choose from an enormous palet of powders to suit your needs, or having to stick to one or two brands and try to make the best out of it because you do not have a choise?
I would not mind if I could not get any VV powder anymore if I could choose from the brands available to you.
VV powders are not bad at all, but I have very often the feeling, I cannot perform to the best possible because I have to make restrictions due to the limited brands of powder available.
Kind Regards,
Paul.

One of the the biggest advantages of V is it's about the cleanest burning powder I've ever used.
The problem in my area is the supplier to the retail store. Apparently, (according to the purchasing agent), is there is no such thing as back orders. It's a first come first serve operation. In most cases when a particular powder arrives at the supplier the biggest companies will buy up all the high demand powder the day it shows up, leaving the smaller retailer getting whats left if any. Smaller retailers generally put in orders once a month while the biggest, (Midway and Caballas to name a few) buy on a daily or weekly basis. They get top dollar plus shipping as well as HAZMAT fees.

| Cannot you make an in advance payment or deposit to make sure, if any of the powder of your liking has come through, you are certain to get what you want?

I tried. I've talked with purchasing agent for the 2 biggest gun stores in this area. He states, VV is distributed in the US by Hogodan. He also stated VV is extremely hard to work with because they pretty much have the NATO market wrapped up. The big contracts come first. The small commercial buyers are at the very bottom of the ladder. I just wish Caballa's would open a store around here.

Paul, my son uses VV shotgun powder excusively for his regular bird hunting. He just advised that there is no more VV shotgun powder in Colorado. You two are are the opposite ends of the same problem but you both will work through your shortages.

Nosler 150 gr BT`s..
45 grains of Varget with CCIBR2 primers and Win brass..
it walks the dog in my 20 inch bull barreled 308 Tactical..dime sized groups with ease.
Varget and the 308 are wicked when combined..
Good post Overbore

| For those really interested in .308 loads and techniques there is an extensive article on .308 loading in Handloader 257. RD

Even though it was informative it just wasn't that realistic in my case. It would be nice to be able to afford a hammer forged rifle that doesn't need breaking in or being able to buy NIB brass and match .308's, but I haven't won the lottery yet, (guess I should play it though ). All of my brass is reclaimed of the range and I would never load cartridges with the amount of Varget the author uses, It could very easily blow up the barrel or bolt.

Have you thought of trying RL15?
43.1gr under the 175gr SMK does the trick.
