Finally got some range time with the new gun. It started with the last of the factory ammo 3/4" groups, not bad but then I used some hand loads.

BL-C(2) (various charges 5 rounds ea.) 75 grain hp, the groups opened up to 3"(big disappointment) next was 85 grain psp, it was only slightly better (2 1/2") after that I went to the loads that I used Reloader 19 in and holy crap this gun can shoot!!

wound up with 44.5 grains of reloader 19 and the 85 grain speer psp being the most accurate (5 rounds in a hole the size of a dime )

Now on to the Night Eater scope that come with the rifle, with the power set at 5X or less it was as clear as the burris but when you go over that it became cloudy.

All in all had some fun shooting some golf balls at 100 yards and fixed somebody's ar-15 for them.

Would like to know the vel. of this combo but my crony is not working anymore and will have to buy another one.

I sent mine in for repair and they said, just buy a new one. They gave me a pretty good discount, so I bought a new one.

72,

Who did you buy it from? It sounds like they maybe good people to deal with.

How much did it run ($)? I am looking at getting out as cheap as I can

Thanks

Its been quite a while and I didn't keep the receipts. From memory it is a Chrony Beta, I think I paid $99 for it from Midway. I sent it back to Chrony for repair but they replaced it for $64 but I can't remember for sure.

I was shooting some 80 grain Sierra's from prone postion over the Chrony. I didn't think my prone was that low but apparently it was. I bounced an 80 off the top edge of the front sensor.

I do not know who made my old one and will not be sending it back for repair. It looks like midway will be getting a few dollars off me soon.

Thanks.

I ran your load combination through my QuickLoad software and it's saying your running around 3054 fps with 1657 ft. lbs of energy. I used a 24 inch barrel configuration.

The graph for the load shows that there is room to increase the powder charge up to 48.5 grains without any pressure problems, after that you could have some pressure issues.

It would be a 3.3% compressed load and run in the neighborhood of 3334 fps with 1975 ft. lbs of energy.

Hope this help you a bit,..

300saum,

Thanks, that helps, it looks like I might try to bump up the charge just a bit. Right now it will put 5 rounds in a hole the size of a dime at 100 and I hope to get out to 200 yards to try it out soon. If accuracy is not changed for the worse I will be very happy but if it is I will just bring it back down to what I had.

OK Hunter,...

I purchased mine online about 5 years ago it was the 3.1 version, they now have a 3.4 version (more powders, calibers, and projectiles from all the manufactures) to which I did purchase the update disc.

You can go to the link I'm providing below for more info and purchase if you'd like. It's a great time and $$ saving program that you can use to do preliminary load workings to see how they would function without leaving for the range.

It's an excellent program!

Here's the load I used for my Rem 788 in 243 but they were really accurate rifles out of the box, 100gr Nosler spitzer 33.5gr of IMR 4895 & CCI LR primer that shot clover leafs at 100yards.
