Hello I just bought a Rem 700 in a 260 rem and am just about to start reloading for it. I have bought 3 different bullets for it.
100 grn nosler Bt - Varmints
120 grn Barnes TTSX- hunting
130 grn Berger VLD- paper
I measured the chamber with the VLD to touch the lands and came up with 2.940. My question is has anyone loaded these bullets in a factory chamber before? And what kind of COAL did you come up with? From what I have herd the bergers like to be close to the lands.
Thanks

i load for a few 6.5's just not that one yet ,generally speaking boat tails seem to be best when seated close to the lands, some people swear by .010 off some by .030 off, some even by touching the lands ,i have a rule i try to never forget -every rifled barrel is different ,hence the "generally speaking" part at the front ,quite often one is limited in magazine length, the 6.5 is a excellent round in just about every caliber it is manufactured for ,working up loads is part of the fun of reloading ( sometimes the pain as well)and once u get a safe fairly consistent load adjusting the seating depth on or off may fine tune it even better( sometimes switching primers does as well) g'luck and have fun finding out what ur girl likes !

Berger recomends that you leave some room for the bullets to jump to the lands. They claim that competitve shooters are getting better resluts than they do with the bullets touching the lands.

I have several loads for 260 all oal of 2.80 getting closer to the lands did'nt help much and I like them to fit in the mag. On my a-bolt oal of 2.8 works great accurate and fast low speed deviation etc.
#1 120 core-lkt 46.5gr h4350 cci primer 2950fps dev+-12
#2 120 core-lkt 47.5gr rl 19 wlr primer 3013fps dev+-8
#3 129 hornady sp interlock 47.5gr rl 19 wlr primer 2985fps dev+-4 sub moa groups for 2 years temps 10-90
#4 140 core-lkt 46.5gr rl22 wlr primer 2701fps dev+-16
sub moa groups for 2 years temps 10-90
My average shot is 150 yards axis and white tail they drop like a sack of potatos low recoil #4 load is better for my app but I like the #3 better. I get 270 performance from a 260 Great balance short action low recoil

Hard to go wrong with the .260. I have several of them in various configurations that I've used for hunting and long range target shooting. Enclosing a couple pics of my tricked out DPMS AR in .260. Close-up of left side of receiver shows caliber marking (So you won't think I'm kidding about it being a .260. Serial number is taped over to hide from inquiring minds.) Scope is Leupold Mark 4, 4.5-14X in Leupold rings. Also sending pics of my Remington Custom Shop Model 7 in .260, that I had built with laminated Mannlicher style stock. Close-up shows the Talley QD rings and Leupold compact 3-9X, which is light and about perfect for the M-7 .260 for about any type of hunting.
Shoot well, safely, and often..

I load Hornady 129 SST in my 260 Kimber. It has killed three bucks, none of the bullets exited but all died within 10 yards.
The rifle was shooting 1 inch. Then I started seating about .10 of the lands, and group shrunk to 3/4. Loaded rounds feed into chamber from mag; but loaded rounds are longer than the ejection port. The bolt must be removed to get loaded rounds out of the action. My experience with short actions is the mag will let you load a round that will not eject.
