6.5x284, 130g Berger VLD and 2213SC powder, Lapua Brass. The rifle is a stock standard Savage F-Class.
Where I am in New Zealand there is no local long range target competition. We shoot for first shot hits on steel and the the furthest I have shot this rifle is 1200yards.
The rest of the time its a varmint rifle.

Not a 1K shooter yet(600) so was interested in the remarks. Thanks for all the info. Just bought a 700 in 51. Using 150 gr. boattails in front of Varget. Will be playing with the combination and a heavier bullet for longer shots. Nothing like keeping them in the black. wc

Offhand, I found your post of june 28 most interesting and would welcome more when you come up with something. I'm also an oldtimer, but relatively new to competition. I spent all my early years chasing elk and bears up and down the mountains and didn't start any competitive target shooting until i got old and arthritic and couldn't physically handle the hunts.
