I'd like to reload some range brass for my son's mini 30. Unforunately he's a half continent away and I don't have the opportunity to slug the bore. This is a 2 year old gun. I was wondering if any of you knew the bore size. My dies came with both .311 and .308 expanders. Since he lives in Cal. I was thinking of loading some TSX bullets for use if he went hog hunting but don't know which ones to get. I believe .311 are now available.  RD

Had one. Bore is .308, throat is .311 or so, to allow dummys/skinflints to shoot surplus ammo in them.

Best I could EVER do with my Mini-30 was around 4 inches at 100 yards. Finally gave up and traded it.

Thank you Charley. I will try some .308 then. There was supposed to be a major retooling of the Ruger autos about 3 years ago with a tightening of tolerances etc. I bought this gun after that occured so hopefully it will shoot better than that. I gave it to my son on the occasion of the birth of his first child. He's been so busy that it's still unfired. One of these days we'll get some range time. RD

Mine was a very early one, first year production...first one I saw in SA, to be exact. I hope they have tightened them up, and made better shooters of them.

I was talking to a gunsmith friend, not long after I gave up on it and traded. The 4 inch groups were the best I could do, most ammo, including factory, ran about 6 inches. When I told him I was getting 4 inch groups with some handloads, he laughed, and told me I obviously had the National Match version, since those he had played with wouldn't do thet well!

Hope your son's does better!

I have had many SKS's  and have the rcbs 308 and 311  die with both  size  resizers.  I have shot cast bullet and jacketed bullets through it hich I know isnt the same is yours but i bored my (mini not sks) out to .310 and shot .308 and .312 bullets out of it.. I know that seems weird but   i guess more that one size diamater can ride the bore or come wobbling out the bore and still hit the target under a inch.  PM me and Ill try to help you out with personal semi auto loads for the 7.62x39 russian loads

I would like to load some cast bullets in a mini-30. I would appreciate suggestions about loads and bullet hardness.

I have a mini-30 in 7.62x39. I herd that Ruger put .308" and .310" or .311" barrels on them at different times . I called Ruger and asked them what my diameter was , they asked me what my serial # was before they looked it up. I would suggest that you call Ruger and have your serial # handy.
