Heading to my place Friday night, general whitetail season starts Saturday morning. Taking a guest, a coworker who has never hunted whitetails, and wants to try. He's dead set on shooting one with a crossbow, even though this is the start of the general (rifle) season. Figure I can put him on a doe or spike easy enough.
I'm in no hurry to shoot something, I'll throw in one of my flinters just in case.

Gotta have pictures. Not going to be very cool, lows of around 55 to 60F. Wish it was cooler. Deer and hogs will be moving anyway.

Good luck. Heat seems to be a problem everywhere. Mid 50's every day here since opener last Sat. Deer aren't moving here. 40's starting tomorrow here, maybe that will help.

Not much went on, heard very little shooting. I let a 2 or 3 year old spike walk (bad on me, should have took him out of the genepool), and also had an opportunity on an axis, but she had a fairly young fawn with her, let her go, too. Must be getting soft. Axis are better eating than whitetails, IMO, but I didn't feel like butchering anything that day!
Full moon cuts down on movement during the daylight down this way, don't know how it affects other areas of the country.
