So far this year I've seen a dozen bears. The biggest of which I saw last evening.

At around 6:30 a nice "shooter bear walked in to the site. I gues he was something just over or around 200 pounds. I decided to pass on him as I have taken a couple with trad gear that large and now am holding out for something bigger ( but I was tempted).

The bear seemd especialy nervous. Grab a piece of bread and run. On his third trip in, he looked to his right and just about turned inside out trying to get outta there =- FAST !

I remember thinking it nust be a bigger bear.

About 10 minutes went by, and for some reason, I glanced out towards the old tote road I use to access this site and there heading in on the trail I use to bait, was a hawg of a bear - easily 300 and most likely 400ish.

That fella for sure had the ol heart tickn ! But slick as snot, in mid stride, he jammed that big black nose into the air, and without stopping, or missing a stride, he 180'ed er back out the path with neary a glance back or any hesitation - that;'s the diff I guess between big bears and just bears........

I waited till well after dark, seeing if he would come back ( not to shoot but just for my curiosity) - never did hear from him again.

When I lowered my bow to the ground, I took one last glance at the barrel...it was a bear....not sure how big - but a bear......I snapped a branch-no response from the bruin. I whistled..he actually began walking over to my tree. I broke another, more substantial branch, and he still kept coming. So I through it at him.....it biounced harmlessly off him - he sniffed it .

Thankfully he returned to the barrel. I banged the seat of the treestand a couple times and this moved him off....I snuck outta there-happy as a man can be.

In two evenings I saw 6 bear! I almost hated to close up the camp and head home - but the thought of seeing my family and a home cooked meal lured me through the 2 hour drive back.......

Still waiting for my first hunters of the year. Funny - normally we are half done by now, and this year we have not even started.

Hope I didn't bore you all...just wanted to let you know what I've been up to.

Sounds like you've been having a good time with the bears BEA.   I haven't seen a bear this year, just lots of tracks and scat.   Since rifle season opened for deer I haven't seen any bucks either.  Yesterday evening I was in the hills looking and all I saw were tiny little does and fawns.  One doe stood 20 yards away, broadside, for about 20 seconds.  Why can't it be a buck!!!

Keep at it and that big bruin will fall to your arrow before long.
