Got back in today. Spent the weekend chasing pigs and whitetails in Zavala county. Never been to this place before, saw some pretty neat stuff. Unbelievable hog population, the damned things are everywhere. tracks, and rooting, and you can even smell the damned things while on a stand!

Thick assed brush, mesquite, gaujillo, whitebrush, and other stuff I can't name. Shooting is done down senderos, or maybe, if you are lucky, from tripods over some of the brush.

Saw more coyote tracks than I have ever seen, and heard more, too. TG, I could use some advice on calling, that's for sure.

NO snakes at all, I am sure the hog population makes life very difficult for them. I sat in the brush within bowshot of an opening and feeder, and saw over a dozen rats and voles, picking up corn as fast as they could. More evidence of the lack of snakes!

Did see two does and four yearlings Saturday morning, but was rifle hunting for hogs then. Missed a hog this morning with a Cook & Brother musketoon. Coarse sights, low light... and , well, I just missed! Did kill two pigs in a trap a bit later.

Wish the weather had been cooler, sweated like crazy, and stunk really badly. Odor control is tough in those conditions, and the light, variable winds didn't help. Heard lots of hogs moving thru brush close by, but I'm sure they scented me and everyone else there.

I'll be back during rifle season when it is cooler, should see a lot more.

I've never seen a 170 in the wild, either. Liikely I'd get slackjawed and drool!

That sounds like a great time Charley.   I hope you can get back down there and go after the big bucks.

That place sounds like "Hog Heaven".
