Just a random thought.
Gene has hunted our ranch many times, as both friend/guest and customer.
Gene has killed two trophy animals in the same calendar year.
One was a 300 lb trophy boar, the other a 12 point whitetail buck.
In both cases, Gene took the trophy on a Saturday evening hunt.
In both cases, Gene took the trophy from the same single seat, open air tripod blind at the remote south end of the ranch.
In both cases, we hunted other tried and true locations before we sent him to exile island. Locations that consisently produce our best trophy animals.
Anyway, just a random thought.

It is sort of strange isn`t it?The day I killed that big boar..I don`t know how, don`t know why...I told ya I would kill that evenin..Just had the feeling that he was gonna mess up and hit that stand that evening..
Took me a few different trophy bucks to make up my mind but found the buck I was after and there was no hesitation when he walked into view..
That stand is good luck for me or somethin..
Maybe it is Karma??
Any of you guys got lucky spots, lucky rifles, or any thing that "Brings ya luck".

I have a few areas that I hunt that are great for seeing deer, or bobcat, or coyote, or some kind of wildlife. I have done that before I left to go hunting. Just felt like everything was perfect that day for a kill and sure enough I would kill something. Mostly deer. I guess all the stars line up just right on those days.

Back in 2001, when I got the 176" Mulie that's my avatar, we knew that everyone in the valley was aware of that big boy. A deer that size doesn't just drop into this valley every year and the folks that call the place home tend to see everything while they're doing their preseason scouting. Even on the private lands that we are fortunate enough to have access to, there were 5 other hunters, besides us, there hoping for a chance. When I look back on how it all played out (and I do it often with the shoulder mount just above my computer reminding me how lucky I was), with all the things that had to happen just perfectly that morning for it to be me that got the shot at that animal ... well, I started identifying lucky talismens immediately. He's by far the largest Mule Deer I'd taken at the time and still is so I'd imagine it's only natural to try to cling to things lucky. The hunting partner (my father) and the rifle used (Sako TRG-S 7.82 Warbird) seem the most valuable of lucky charms to me now. When you add that the largest Whitetail I've ever taken (2003) was with the same combination of partner and rifle, maybe there's something to it. I don't know. Luck? Karma? Coincidence? Hard to explain why things happen the way they do. Later. >> korey

My number 2 nephew is my good luck. When he came down to hunt with me we didn't spend much time watching an empty field. Now that he's legal huntin' age I'm SOL. But I still have a spot that gets hot when it's snowing, raining, sleeting, and blowing all at once. The 2 times I sat there with those conditions I scored.
