Morning Fellas  >>  Hope all your New Years festivities were safe and enjoyable.

As some of you may know, the Allen family has another hunt scheduled for the first part of April.  Now that we're actually in 2007, I'm getting a bit excited about the prospects that the ranch might have to offer.  Have been in communication with the owner of the place and an interesting opportunity has come up but I'm not sure I can foot the bill with an elk hunt scheduled at the same place come August.

So, given the choice of the options below (and assuming you enjoy hunting exotic rams and needed a fine trophy of each species) which would most interest you     ...     a 30 - 32 inch Red Sheep ram ($2000)     ...     a 33 - 34 inch Mouflon ram ($2500)     ...     hunt both as each are wonderful opportunities at an extremely fair price tag.

I've currently booked and paid for a Red Sheep hunt.  But now I'm struggling with this Mouflon opportunity.  Have considered asking to transfer my down payment on the Red to the Mouflon instead but don't want to ruffle any feathers with this.  Especially with the impending trip back down for elk this fall that is our real reason for hunting this place.  50driver thinks they'd transfer funds without fuss.  I don't know.  Honestly, I still want the Red, too.  Been shuffling around finances seeing of getting both is feasable.  It is, but the wife's another battle I'm not sure I want to take on this early in the new year  ;o)  .  Not really a battle, but you know what I mean.  Hmmmm.

Any opinions on the matter?  First big hunting decision of the new year for me and it's a doozy.  LOL.  >>  korey

Korey,I can`t honestly tell you what to do bro. That is a hard choice any way you look at it..Me,I`d put elk first but I know you like hunting those rams so...
With my limited experience of guiding and dealing with commercial hunting operations,I would say they wouldn`t have a problem with you transferring the down payment. It is in the interest of your outfitter to keep you happy and keep you coming back..note coming back..He will most likely deal with you on that as he knows he can make money in the long run if you are happy an keep returning to hunt with him.
At least that is the way we do it down here. Most outfitters I have met are down to earth and will bend ove backwards to accomodate you..Good luck bud..hard choice, but its a good hard choice..

happy new year, korey -

i agree with 50 and TG - i'm willing to bet that there won't be any fuss with switching over. as TG said, these guys want to keep you happy. on top of that, switching over to the mouflon ram will give them an extra 500$, so my guess is that they will be happy to accomodate you. if this is the reason for not switching, then i think you've got nothing to worry about. i've been in the hospitality biz for a long time, and i can tell you for sure that tehre are bigger pains in the rear than a simple switchover.

as far as red vs mouflon, i personally would be leaning toward the mouflon, but the main reason would be because the future is always uncertain and it might be easier to come up with 2000$ than 2500$ in the future, for whatever reason. other than that, it might come down to a coin toss.

those are my thoughts, although i admit they might be a little unorganized. as for the negotiations with the wife, i can't help ya there! justifying the extra 500$ might be difficult; but then again, if she knows it's important to you, then she'll support it. but, it might cost you a dinner at the indigo or dante's!:sofa:

Korey,

Wow, what a dilemma!

Rams are beautiful trophies and the opportunity to hunt either would be great.  I'm not overly familiar with the Red Sheep but I've seen the mouflon a few times when I've been on preserves.  Mouflons make beautiful trophies.  Now the meat of any sheep is .  But, that's just one part of the big picture.

If it were me, I'd stick with the red sheep or forego both sheep and go for the elk.  That's me though, I've never hunted or taken an elk or either which for me is more desirable than having either species of sheep.

You live in elk country so you might've taken a few elk before and would prefer the sheep over the elk.  If that's the case, I'd still stick with the Red Sheep as I haven't seen them offered as frequently as the mouflon.

That's my take.  Either way, I'm sure you'll be happy.

Thanks for the comments, guys.  As of yet, I've not received a pic of this 33+" Mouflon.  I want that pic before I make any decision to include him as a hunting possibility.  Don't know if the owner of the ranch is dragging his feet with the pic cause he doesn't want to get rid of his breeding ram or if he's just working on the perfect pic.  He did say he wanted to get me a good pic that'd show off the rams characteristics.

Either way I go with these rams in April, the elk hunt in August is already locked in.  Plans for that one are not changing.

Guess I'll wait patiently for that pic and make then make the call.  >>  korey

Thats easy go for the Mouflon, on the way to the hunt call your wife and tell her youve been kidnapped and the ransom is $500.00.  Good Luck, if that works please let me know.
