Roger that, protein, genetics and good management.i.e-killing cull bucks to keep crappy genetics from multiplying, culling does as well to keep numbers down where animals can feed enough to grow these big guernos~..

I was by myself when I seen this thing and could not beleive it.If you read the story about my first hunt with the Walking Horse I mentioned seeing this monster buck one morning..

That buck has given me more fits than my wife.

He was filmed in Jan of 06 by my wife's uncle.  Days later Gene saw him while he was hunting the big boar.  I saw him a week later myself but never had a shot.

I did not see that buk this season and figured he had gone completely nocturnal or has died for whatever reason.

I saw him the first time since last year last Saturday morning.  He is cagey as an MF.  He came to the shootig lane when a nice 8 point was there.  I glassed him awhile and then someone shot and he ran off.  I got in position to take him.  about 30 minutes late he re-appeared further up the sendero but never gave me a broadside shot.  He was 150+ yards out and I was not going to take a bad shot on that beautiful buck.  I was never able to get a good shot and after 10 minutes he hussled on up the way.

For the first time this season he put some inspiration back in me to really hunt deer.  The good news is that in October I will be looking to put crosshairs on him

Really good buck. How old do you reckon? Hard to judge from the video...between the focus and the angle he came in at. I'd guess 5ish, based on what I can see of his neck and paunch.

Charley I think you are right 4 1/2 -5 year old in the video.Excellent animal though. You could not ask for a better representative of a totally wild hill country buck. What do you think he would score?I think he is 170 possibly 180 if the mass is big enough which I beleive it is.:cool:Good animal..
Gene

One of my co-workers, who has done a fair amount of guiding guesstimated 170 to 180, closer to 180, because of the mass.

Good deal.I am usually decent at judging an animal.I am glad to hear someone else thinks the same.Either way, this is one hell of a buck.I was hoping WHR or his father would harvest this animal this year..Simply because I wanted to see a true "monster buck" up close. He would make one hell of a wall mount for the cabin or the big house WHR!!!
