I think the T Rex's skull is like that of a wild boar, thick and hard. The T'Rex has a 5 long head, so the shot wouldn't be that hard.
But a shot to the spine in the neck could be really damaging shot.

Some skull info from Wikipedia:
The largest known T. rex skulls measure up to 5 feet (1.5 m) in length.[13] Large fenestrae (openings) in the skull reduced weight and provided areas for muscle attachment, as in all carnivorous theropods. But in other respects Tyrannosaurus’ skull was significantly different from those of large non-tyrannosauroid theropods. It was extremely wide at the rear but had a narrow snout, allowing unusually good binocular vision.[14][15] The skull bones were massive and the nasals and some other bones were fused, preventing movement between them; but many were pneumatized (contained a "honeycomb" of tiny air spaces) which may have made the bones more flexible as well as lighter. These and other skull-strengthening features are part of the tyrannosaurid trend towards an increasingly powerful bite, which easily surpassed that of all non-tyrannosaurids.

Fortunately, we don't have an open season on T-Rex in my state until next year, so I can avail myself of the wisdom of those who have actually collected trophies and have empirical data to share.
Ain't Al Gore's internet great?

Isn't Al Gore suppose to release the first T Tex from a holding pen and then Dick Chaney suppose to do the ceremonial first shot?

If Algore, Dick Cheney, and a T-Rex are in the same room, and Cheney has a gun, I hope the T-Rex isn't the first thing he shoots.

This has been good fun speculating about a T Rex hunt but it might not be that far fetched. On the History Channel show Jurasic Park Tech they were talking about DNA. It seems that only a small percentage of DNA is actually used to create a modern animal. Say 20,000 to 30,000 codes but some DNA has hundreds of thousands codes.
These extra codes are from earlier forms of the animal. Some think that going back through the extra codes you could create the dinosaur form of the animal.
There has been some work on this, for example they have created chickens with the claw in the middle of the wing.
I say book you hunt now it may not be too early.

I want to book mine ASAP, then work up the load and get in to shape to carry a 30 pound rifle a day long.

I would think a person might want to get into good enough shape to carry said 30 pound rifle at a speed of 30 miles per hour for an extended period in case your first shot and the backup shot missed.

I am not afraid of any shoot missing, I am afraid of shoots being ineffective.
If this critter was to chase me, I would probably be able to run 30 miles an hour until I had a heart attack. Us older guys can only handle so much adrenaline as well as filling our pants during the mad dash to safety. This may also apply to just about any age group or physical condition.
Back in the 60s while in the army, carrying a full pack, M 14 and what ever with the trainign NCO screaming and yelling at us, could on;y get us to run so fast, but I don't think ie was anywhere near 30 MPH.
So every shot has to count.

The fastest humans run 100 meters in only slightly less than 10 seconds. That is less than 22 miles per hour.
Another point to consider. How thick must the hide be to contain that many tons of muscles and guts? And another point if you are not going for a head shot where will the heart and lungs be and how well protected? I have seen the fossils and I don't think most conventional weapons will break the bones in the legs and hips. The shoulder is not much though.

Asian Water Buffalos are mostly muscle and a lot of it. I say one shoot by an H2 HB, just one shoot and the buffalo acted annoyed.

When working with the Cav one time I saw an Asian buffalo hit in the rear quarter at least 20 times with an M2 50 cal and was still trying to drag it self away with its front legs.
One of the tracks ran over it and it was still alive. One of the cav guys put a hand grenade next to its front shoulder and blew it up.
The Cav are not animal lovers.

I had to get in on this one. I do not know which caliber I would use but I have been involved in hunting and digging up fossils for about 13 years and that includes dino's. As a friend of mine says "the big dino's are big and the little ones are little". Lots of simple truth there. But I will add to that by saying that those large dino's have large thick bones. Except for the carnosaurs. Yes they were still large bones but to a degree they were also hollow. A Rex has a large head but a small brain. I am thinking that a spine shot or better yet a shot in/throught the chest would be the ticket because of the larger size of target area plus there is a good bit of spacing between the ribs. Penetration is needed but expansion would be critical.
Of course I am leaning towards a 30-06, 45-90 (in my sporterized Lee Enfield No1 MkIII ) or my .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer with hollowpoints of course

I must admit that would be a hum dinger of T Rex gun, I am not sure if I want to shoulder fire. Unless I was going to be stomped and eaten.
