I am in love with the sierra 150 Pro Hunter in my 308 for whitetails and the 120 prohunter in my 260

I quit using the Sierra 150 gr. PH years ago in either the 30-06 or .308. Mangled up too much good eating meat to suit me. In the .308 I like the 165 gr. Speer Hot-Core and in the 30-06, the 180 gr. Sierra Pro-Hunter.

I've just never found that the "premium" bullets shoot as accurately as my old standbys...Sierra bullets! Game Kings for hunting Match kings for paper...with the rare exception of some hand made BR bullets in a few instances. Years ago I loaded some Nosler Partitions in my wifes 250-3000 because.....wel...just because. They were not as accurate as the Sierras and cost a hell of a lot more, and in the end, a dead deer is...a dead deer. I bought some Nosler Accubonds for my 375 H&H after I saw some groups that a poster here had shot and because I couldn't find any 300 Gr. Sierra's at that moment...as I've always found to be true, I've never seen a Nosler that could carry the dirty diaper of a Sierra...but thats just me, please don't take any offense you Nosler guys, none was meant...well, not much anyway
Oh...I talked to the guy that started making Trophy Bonded bullets a long while back and told him that I wanted to let my son shoot the Mini 14 at deer and he sent me 100 of the 55 gr.(I think) just to try out. They shot pretty sporty too so I sent him a check mostly for being so damn nice. They worked wonderfully for my son and he used them for quite a few years till they ran out.
I bought some 375 Lion load bullets and some Monolithic solids from Art at A Square when they were located here in Bedford, Ky more or less just to say that I had some. Art was a damn nice guy, he used to let me go down to the shop and would let me test fire any rifle in the place . A friend of mine called one hot August day and said that his big Angus bull had gone nuts and was tearing everything up...so I got a chance to try one of the Monolithic solids on him in a full frontal, full speed ahead charge... I hit him right between the running lights and the bullet passed all the way through, straight through... and exited his exit hole He dropped like Thors hammer had hit him!
But now, when it comes to buying bullets...especially for deer and other smaller game, I just use my Sierra's. If I get worried about ruining meat I shoot them through both lungs or in the head...just because I can!

I still find that 150 grain cast bullets that are a little soft, that has a gas check can do deer size game quite well.
A 30-30 is all the rifle you need for deer, that is what I use in West Virginia.
Here in Ohio, you can only use a shotgun or a muzzle loader for most game during the season. So for muzzle loaders I use a sabot with a 405 grain 45 caliber CB. I am still experimenting with the shotgun slugs.
As far as raging bulls and over sized boars, I have a variety of rifles and a load of different bullets to use, some are cast and some are store bought.
