Hey Grey..This really isn`t a hunting post but ..I watched a show on the South African Special Task Force. Those ole boys are some rough SOBs.They remind me of military Special Forces more than police. They definately beleive in live by the sword, die by the sword justice. I wish we had more police like them in this country. We could use a group of fella in every state like them to clean out the undesirable elements....

I didn't see that show, but saw that it was coming.
I don't know what they really are, but the "Commandos" that responded when my PH was showing me his security system, and accidentially triggered it, these guys had killed two blacks that same morning for armed robbery. Seems the (mostly black) police are not much help, but these Commandos are a serious deterent. That, and the eight foot electric fence surounding the property makes them safe. I rolled down a window at a highway intersection one night, and learned to never do that again. If that gives you a clue?
Do you know the difference between a tourist and a racist? (joke)
Good hunting. LB

I didnt see the show either but I like the idea that if your caught in the act they just blow you away, I'd be willing to bet that a lot less crime would be going on around here

These fellas are about as Commando as you can get.During that show they filmed them stopping an armored car hijacking .They filmed the whole deal and in seconds five hijackers were dead....

Hi Guys
TG i would like to know more about the show you saw? You dont know what unit and where they operated? Rural or suburban?
Leonard, the 'Commandos' as we call them here is about the only thing you can count on these days...the could be compared to the homegaurd in the US? I think.
Unfortunately there is a huge drive from the goverment to disband them, according to them they use un-needed force.... well i dont know about you guys but i doubt if i would use "minimal force" if someone is emtying his AK-47 on your car.....
Im very much involved with the farmers union and we are constantly fighting for their existance... but to be honest with you i think it is a question of time.
Please dont see me as being negative towards the changes in our country, but some things have changed for the better and some not....
All the best

Yes, time IS running out. I didn't want to speak frankly with my PH or his wife, (who is a lot more pessimistic) but even he said; "Africa is for the blacks" even though his roots go back several hundred years.
I saw a vegetable farm across the road from his property. It looked like WWII bombed out ruins in East Germany, sixty years ago. Guess what? One year previous, it had been the largest farm of it's type in the district, but it looked like an earthquake had hit it. Rubble. Hottest item is what they call: "Zinc" which is what we would call corregated galvanized roofing material. Perfectly good, sound structures, "they" find it and if nobody is home, it can be completely dismantled overnight, and fitted onto a bunch of shacks. How's that for progress? Government builds them "long drop" outhouses, but they would rather poop in the river...where they drink and wash clothes.
One in eight women have been the victim of rape. Stuff like that.
Republic of South Africa is the last outpost of civilization on the continent, and the white glue that is holding it together is being squeezed out. It is hard to imagine what the future holds, but it will not be an improvement, as I understand the term.
If you ever wanted to go, do it now. Tomorrow may be too late, hunts in Zimbabwe are way down from five years ago and imigrants keep pouring in, also from from Mozambique. Law of the jungle, the only thing missing is grass skirts. Johannesburg is an urban jungle.
I'm sorry to paint such a bleak picture, but from my perspective as a tourist, it's hopeless.
Answer to above question: "two weeks"
Good hunting. LB

Hey fellas. The guys in that show echoed many of the same things you have said. They are self proclaimed killers and they`ll tell ya that.Grey I expressly remember them saying they were in Johannesburg where they mentioned they average 5 armored car heists a week.It is a shame if they do go.They remind me of the old Texas Rangers who shot first and asked questions later. It didn`t do or still doesn`t pay to tangle with a Ranger. It sounds like they are the lifeline between evil and good in your country Grey. They just do it with bullets instead of courts.

Unfortunately you are so right in this matter... the thing is they need to have an attitude like that to survive, as the robbers here will shoot you for a handfull of $.
something i want to share with you on a lighter note...
A couple of weeks ago my father's livestock was stolen, not a lot, only a couple of sheep... so he called the local police to come and see if they can find the culprits in the area, as it was clearly a local person .
They (local police) told him they do not have feul for their vechile, and if he were to send someone with some feul they would respond!!
I think things like that is the main reason that most poeple in the rural areas uphold the law themselves these days...

lol..That is pathetic Grey.I know it is not funny to lose stock but the authorities can`t come because they don`t have gas....
Even today in Texas there are people who make a living stealing cows. You`d think it was a thing of the past but it still exists. It is a dangerous business though.People here will kill over stuff like that and we still have laws on the books that side with the person who kills a stock a thief.

It might not be legal in SA to shoot a stock thief, but they just have a tendancy to dissapear.... if you know what i mean. That is whatt certain people feel they are forced to resort to. Its a sad but true fact.
I love this country, and will always love it, ill probably never leave, all we can do is to try and make it work.
