Gents
Ive seen no mention of Red hartebeest, Blesbuck and Black Wildebeest?
These animals are really unique and make great mounts, and dont break your bank balance.
The blesbuck on the other hand is just so plain ugly you got to love it!! and makes for good biltong as well.
These might not be as popular as some of the other species the hunters always hunt, but i think its nice to have something different?

Grey,
There are many, many animals in Africa. Many look 'funny' to us Americans.
The ones you mention, all are prettu 'goofy' looking, but very nice on the table.
Also, this post is what people would like to hunt, not necessarily a 'what is available to hunt'.
Any and all animals listed are good choices, whether Lion, or Duiker.Last edited on 13 March 2006 08:36 PM by PhilLozano

| Cape Buffalo, Leopard, Warthog, and one of those others with long twisty horns. I am afraid all would be out of my price range.

I wouldn't mind a plains game hunt. No single animal really favored over another. Trophies of these would be a must though ... Kudu, Eland, Impala, Gazelle, Wildebeest, Hartebeest. Was looking at the pics on the web site. Oryx, Roan, Sable and Water Buck would also make the list of wants. 'Spose these ten and all the fees and such that go along with them and the hunt would sufficiently break the bank. LOL.
Truth be told, I have to much stuff I can hunt here in the states to seriously consider heading over seas though. Maybe someday. We'll see. >> klallen

Bwana kallen,

True enough. However, how many hunts do you have to go on to shoot 15 animals ?
Africa is a wonderful place for a hunter that has adventure in his heart.

Even hunting here, I think the main restriction for me is $$$. We're going to Nebraska in April for a 4-day exotic hunt. The owner of the place will have just gotten back from his yearly Texas auction trip and the place should be full of desireable trophies. Save for the tiny detail of having to actually pay for these animals, I'd love to load up on many different species of sheep and deer. As it is, Red and Black Hawaiian are the primary objective of my trip.
I agree with your last statement but would add ... Africa is a wonderful place for a hunter that has adventure in his heart "and cash in his billfold". LOL.
Someday I hope to get there but it's not an all-consuming desire just now.
Keep posting your hunting experiences though. I do love reading them. Take care. >> klallen

Bwana kallen,
Africa is a wonderful place for a hunter that has adventure in his heart "and cash in his billfold".
I know this is a reloading forum with a lot of hunting thrown in. And you are correct, hunting in Tanzania is bloody expensive. South Africa is a much, much cheaper alternative. But you need to be aware of what you are getting as well. In both cases, you get what you pay for.
There are many South African as well as Namibia hunting ranches where you can do a plains game hunt for 10 days with 7 to 10 animals included for a total price of under $10k. Yes you are hunting within a fence, but that is not different than hunting many places on US ranches.
Yes, $10k is a lot of cash, but if you add up travel expenses to and from several different places in the states to shoot 'exotics', it is not too far apart in cost in the end, just the timing of when it is all spent.
A person that has a pretty good job and really wants to hunt Africa, with some dilligence, can save enough to have a very nice plains game safari. Most of the people that come to Tanzania are usually business owners that have done fairly well.
When I was hunting in S.A., the final question from potental clients generally was "how much"? In Tanzania, the final question is more commonly, "how long will it take to get ___ "? And that question is harder to answer than in So. Africa as the animals are not fenced so your odds of finding them change dramatically.
Back to my point, true enough, hunting in Africa is expensive. However, if you have adventure in your heart, you don't have to come to hunt. There are many 'tourist packages' and companies that will provide you with a very nice 'African adventure' although the "shots" will be from your camera and not from your rifle.
It is very difficult explaining the feeling you get when visiting Africa. Anyone that has been, knows what I am saying, as it is almost impossible to explain it to someone that has not been. Not many places leave you with that feeling.

Evening PL >> Was looking at the trophy fees for the 10 animals I'd be most interested in hunting from your web site :
- Kudu - $1600
- Eland - $1250
- Impala - $350
- Gazelle - $350
- Wildebeest - $475
- Hartebeest - $500
- Oryx - $1200
- Roan - $1500
- Sable - $1750
- Water Buck - $650
- TOTAL = $9625
I consider these prices to be very reasonable. Very much in line with harvest fees associated with animals I'll be hunting come April.
I don't want you to have to waste any of your valuable time figuring out specific $$$ amounts. Just from experience, would it be possible to give me a ball-park dollar amount, above and beyond the trophy fees, that a hunt to get these 10 animals (you can determine the appropriate number of days for this kind of a hunt) would run me. The flight getting over there and back. All the government fees, taxes, permits and licenses. Getting the trophies back to me. Tips to you and staff. Was running down your list of added fees and without having any real idea of what it cost to get the trophies dipped, packaged and shipped home or what's appropriate for tips with such a hunt, I came to a total of just over $6K. Would this sound accurate? What would be shipping charges for the trophies home? Again, ball-park. What would you consider fair for tips? We'll add this to the $6K total if that sounds reasonable.
I guess I'm asking cause I've never really known total charges for an African hunt of exactly what I want to hunt. It seems like every time I've delved into it, dollar amounts have added up so quickly I've just always correlated Africa with expensive ;o) .

| I will just have to stick to whitetails, coyotes, bobcats, and armadillos. Or just whatever else I can find around home to hunt. That would be the adventure of a lifetime to go to Africa, however it is limited to the hunter with deep pockets.

| One trophy sable, and a buff like in Phils pic. Thats it, I'd spend the rest of any time I had in Africa with a camera.

| Force Recon, I'm with you . I know it's suppossed to be just a dream hunt but getting to go to Wy.,Ut. and Az. and any other state I get drawn in is exotic enough for me. Hell, the way the G&F Depts. keep raising thier fees is getting to be like hunting in Africa ! I'll take a big elk or muley anytime. I'd like to hunt Alaska then Africa , when I become a millionare...Then I would like to shoot a big mean ugly buff.

Well I would be glad to join you when you get that million. The only thing I can assure is that I would bring enough fire power.
I hope to get to go to Wyoming this year if I get drawn. Good luck on your drawings.
