Gentlemen
I would like to know wich of the african throphies you like, or would love to hunt one day.
I think everybody would like to hunt Cape Buff. But what else? Im talking of the smaller game available.
To me one of the most beutifull throphies is the Nyala. then again Ive always wanted a Zebra skin to spread on the floor in front of my loading bench.....

I would like an impala to eat and mount and a big kudu.. My ultimate want is a lion and a huge warthog though.Something about hunting big hogs in my blood..

Good choice- I think you will be surprized about the good taste Impala has. Good eating.
Regarding Kudu. There are two regions where you will find them. The eastern cape(where yours truly lives) and the Limpopo-thats in the north on the Zimbabwe border. The ones in the north are normally bigger in weight.
If you like hogs, then you might be glad to hear that they are very reasonably priced in SA and you can make the nicest sausages from their meat. Have not gotten a good enaugh warthog for a mount, but hopefully Ladyluck will smile down on me this winter.....

Hey Grey..Good luck with your warthog.I would be happy with just an impala or such,but a wall hanger warthog would be a special treat..
Where you are at,what is the topography like?Is it flat or rolling land?What is the vegetation like?All grasslands or forests mixed in with grassland?
I watch TV shows about Africa a lot on the NGC.It is really some beautiful country..

As far as looks go, I think the gazelles are dang pretty mounts - like the Thompson's.
As far as the hunt would go. I honestly think that I'd like to just kill a truckload of plains game. I'm more into them than the predators and a ton of fun from what I've been told.
If I had to pick predators and dangerous game well I think that lions and leopards would top the scale. Probably leopards more than the lions, they're smarter from what I've read.

I think Sable, Lesser Kudu, Gerenuk and Leopards would get my vote as the best looking.
Warthog has a face that only a mother could love. Wildebeest and Hartebees are the same. But these 3 are very nice as table fare. Make great BBQ.

A nice bit Eland bull? that would just fill the spot on my wall, and lots of good meat as well!!
Phil what eland do you have in Tanz. , and if so do your clients show an interest in them as a thropy?
And Bongo? or are they not found there? might only be in the northern parts?

I grew up in the Free State- huge flat grass plains, and thats where my hunting started.
I presently live in the south east on the coast, the lat of the land varies considerably here, and that makes it all the more interesting. Woods with grassland, and if you move inland there are the most amazing mountains.....
You will just have to come down for a couple of weeks to see it all??

I posted this in a response to a topic started by BEA a while back. My African "wants" haven't changed :
"Gemsbok, Kudu, Eland, Blue Wildebeest and Red Hartebeest are at the top of the want list for me, with other things certainly being desireable."
I think the Gemsbok is one of the most beautiful African trophys there is. Of the dangerous game, the Cape Buffalo is certainly appealing, but cost wise, I suppose it's just to unrealistic for me to even consider. Guess there is always the PowerBall though  . Later. >> klallen

Now you are making me think. Yes those anamils are nice as well. I should have included the Roan and Fringe-Eared Oryx. as thay are quite attractive as well.

The Eland does make for many good meals. They are nice trophies as well. Some of my clients want to hunt them and some don't. Personally, I like to hunt them. They are East African Eland in Tanzania.
I hunted the Free State, nice place. The last time I was there, it was COLD. It was more like Elk hunting ! However, we were there only for a short time and had a very nice time there with the client, I think he shot 6 animals in 4 days, can't remember, it has been a long time and many clients ago.
It is difficult to choose one or even a few animals that you like in Africa. There is a wide variety to choose from.

I agree with you - there are so many really nice ones( even if you dont go into the sub-species).
How about some pictures of your tropies? I wish I mounted most of mine, but when I started hunting seriously I was 12yrs old and just did not have the money!!!
Klallen- your list is very nice, and realistic. Apart from Eland, the rest on the list are not to expensive. I cant see myself going for buff in the near future either- its a lot of money.

Yes, they are fairly strict. You must apply for a 'Firearms Book'. All your firearms are listed in your book. Then you need to get a license to have them and renew it when ever it expires. (While waiting for your book and license, your firearms you have to 'check' your firearms in with the Police, or put them in a (the only one) Armory storage, until your book and licenses are ready).
It is much simplier for hunting clients to import firearms, than getting the approval if you live there.

well to start out a Kudu,Eland,Springbok,impala,Klipspinger,oryx,Reedbuck,Steinbuck,Thompson Gazelle,Roan. for the other ones I would like a Loin,Cape Buffalo,leopard, warthog.
