Hi all, just got my rifle back from Ed and Wayne at AHR. They did their CZ #1 upgrade (straighten and fill bolt, 3 position Model 70 type safety and a really nice single stage trigger). They also replaced the rear sight with an NECG one, and re-glass bedded the action and added a recoil lug. It all looks great, looking forward to shooting it on Sunday!

Yes, it's a 375 H&H right now. I'm thinking of having it rebarreled/rechambered to 470 Capstick next winter. Or maybe 500 Jeffery.

I've heard AHR is a good place to have the rebarreling done, I wish they were local though ... I believe they do a single stack 500 Jeffery magazine that holds 3 cartridges.

Hi Phil, Ed Plummr and Ray Atkinson (on another forum) all agree, 500 Jeffery. I just couldn't afford it at this time. Maybe over the winter. Ed at AHR does a single stack magazine that is supposed to feed very well. If I have Ed do it, I'm going to specify the barrel /contour I want (Krieger No. 6 ). I'm probably going to have him put an additional mecury recoil reducer in as well to keep the balance right. So I'll be saving my pennies until December.

Hi Phil, my 375 weighs 10.25 lbs without scope (it has a CZ installed mercury recoil reducer in the stock), so 11 lbs with my Leupold 1.5 - 5X 20mm scope. It is a complete pussycat for recoil. How heavy do you think it should be in 500 Jeffery not counting scope?

I'd say HollandNut is pretty close.
My 450 3 1/4 weights 11 lbs. 8 ozs.
And the Jeff will have a bit more recoil for sure.
My 458 Lott is 10 3/4 lbs. And I have decided it is too light. Should be at least as much as my double, if not more.

Thanks guys, so a number 6 contour should be almost 1 lb heavier than my barrel, if I add another mercury recoil reducer (the 1 lb variety) I should be at 12.25 lbs so 13 lbs with scope. Another question. I was thinking about either a 22" or 24" barrel, what are your opinions?

I took my 375 H&H out shooting at a friends place today, we could only shoot at 50 yards, but the rifle shot 1 hole ragged 3 shot groups with both open sights and my leupold 1.5 - 5x scope on it. The rear NECG Masterpiece sight was a huge improvement! So I plan to just go out and shoot it now and get ready for deer and elk season. Those 350g Woodleigh weldcores should be serious medicine for deer. Next winter, I'm rebarreling to 500 Jeffery. The recoil is just too mild with the 375 H&H ...

Well aside from the 24" giving a few more ounces of weight , I wud go with 22" , only a minimal velocity loss , and 22" is a bit handier ..
Probably wudnt matter very much either way .. I prefer the shorter barrel is all ..
