Shot this one today.
Ruger 77 .220 Rocket, Walther Barrel 1:7 twist, Redfield fixed 10x, 210 yd marker, 69 gr HPBT Nosler 33.6 gr Varget 3133 fps.
The hides look good this fall. No fleas or ticks. Should be a good winter. Not much pressure for the last few years so it should be good shooting all winter.
He was on a slow trot right to left right at the 210 yd marker. I put it in his shoulder.
He was DOA. Weighs about 45 lbs.

Thanks. There's a lot of shooting shaping up it looks like this winter.
I saw a big doe this summer with an ear about pulled off, it was hanging from the side of her head. I'm thinking it was injured by a coyote. Just speculating .They are thick as thieves this fall. Hootin and Hollerin all night.
One down many to go. This one is the heaviest I've shot so far weighed in right at 45 lbs.

This is going to be a good hunting year around my area, but why not skin the puppy and make a hat and gloves or some such things, hate to waste things these days.

He's skinned and curing at this moment. He was skinned and fleshed in the field and finished it out back. Probably just throw it over the back of my rocker.

Just takes a spot to sit and watch. Up in your neck of the woods I'd say you should have some good shooting.

Finally hung this one up. It took about 2 weeks in the Alum/Salt brine, took a few more weeks drying. I broke it over a dull edged board and applied a thin moistening of Neats Foot oil.
Just looked at the first post for the date I shot him. It was Nov 12.09 and took this pic today, so it was about 2 months. The solution is really easy to work with and cures the hide quite well pretty fast
