This year, fall shotgun season kind of got put on the back burner for me. For one, the rut kicked in early, but mainly because almost all of our turkey hunting ground has been lost. I'm a die hard turkey hunter, but this year I just couldnt get into it knowing we only had one little spot that we could hunt. I knew where some hens were roosting regularly and decided one evening after work that I would get out there as soon as I could and try to beat them to their roost. I booked it home from work, changed into my camo, grabbed my gun, and took off. As soon as I got there and got my gun loaded, I walked up this hill and eased my way over because I knew they still might be in the field. I eased up and there they were on down the hill and back up. They were too far away, and after about a minute, they decided they didn't like me and they worked their way over the hill in the opposite direction from me. As soon as they did that, I took off running down the hill and back up and eased my way up over the top of the hill and there were 8 of them feeding. I put my sights on one and dropped it where she stood. I was out there for a total of about 3 minutes. I was happy I got one, but it was very dissapointing for me this year knowing that I didn't have a chance to go after a tom like I normally do.

Good job on getting that bird Lucas.  A hen in the hand is worth a tom in the bush.

Our Fall season opens next Saturday and I just might get out there and see if I can bag one.
