I'm a newbie to the site and coyote hunting. I live in western New York State and am gearing up for next years season. Any advice on the yotes in in NY ? I understand they run larger than the western variety.

I can`t help you with hunting in NY bud.I have only ever done it in Texas.I tried it in Virginia once when I was deer hunting.I hear the same thing that the eastern yote is much bigger than the western yote.I was speaking with my uncle a few weeks ago who lives in VA.He said his crop of fawns this year was meager and thinks the yotes are killing a bunch of em..
If that is mountainous where you live, talk to bea175.He hunts them in the VA mountains and tears em up regularly.I bet he could give you some tips on hunting eastern yotes..BTW,wecome to the board..

I have a mixed territory open to me. Within a 2 hour drive I have flatareas, rolling hills and some pretty rough areas (2 nearby counties). They aren't what I would consider mountains but they're pretty cut up.
In those two counties I would be able to use a centerfire rifle during the overlap with the deer season. In the other areas I would be restricted to rimfire or shotgun only during the deer season. (shot size of #2 or smaller or a slug in the shotgun).
By inclination I like the rougher ares but that is going to make calling harder I would think.
