Does anyone here use a 25-06 for calling yotes?I had my 25-06 Ackley built for this specific purpose. It was built to reach out to yotes that had learned to stay out of the range of my 223 with 40 grain VMax.
I plan on using a 100 grain Sierra from the Ack approaching 3400 fps at the muzzle.I`m thinking I can get 500 yards out of it with good optics and a rangefinder.
Anyone else use a 25-06 on Wiley?

Dude....if you can't get 500 yrds out of that set-up...... give it to me.

A Texican friend in Breckenridge bangs steel at 1000 with a 6.5-06AI.  And has a soft load for it to hunt turkeys.  Talk about versatile.

That particuliar rifle was stolen last year, but he is building another.

I'll be in Texas in May..... I'll pick up the rifle then..............:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Timber,

You won't have issues going 500+ yards with that rig. I think the .25-06, (in any flavor), is one of the best long range cartridges going. Perfect bore size to case compacity. I shoot the Sierra 117 Gr. Boat Tails all the time in mine. Thats bullet has a terrific B.C., good velocity, and excellent time of flight to target at the longer ranges. It also has enough weight to buck a little wind without blowing all over hill and dale. With the .25-06 you can really enjoy the best of both worlds. A good varminter, and a decent big game rifle up to nice sized Deer and long range Antelope. Have fun vaporizing the boiler room of those Yotes. You've got one of the very best cartridges in the world to do it with.  Bill T.

:troll:Never could get a 25-06 quite as accurate as I wanted, 6mm284 joined me to 1000 yd Varmint Hunters with a Wyoming prairie dog.  Nice outfit if you like the long rounds.......Just my opinion, and you know everyone has one.

Well I guess some of you know I got the Sendero in 25-06 but still trying to find the perfect 100 grain bullet with it.  I'll be changing powders like some of you recommended.

When I was in the market looking for a step up from my .223's I also liked what I was reading about the 25-06 and that's why I got it. I was hoping to get a 300 yard crow popper out of it but it still needs work.

This summer I am going to set up bait 300 yards out for my coyote friends with the Hornady 120 grain and see what they think of it.     :thumbs1:

Haaaa...filthy mange satan dogs they are  :pissed:

Timberghozt....I been using a model 70 Winchester Sporter for over a dozen years as my go too rifle around the place. it is a 25-06 caliber and it will cover most applications of hunting big game including elk or moose but I do NOT advise this for the average hunter/shooter. I did kill an elk with my 1/4 bore but that was a perfect situation standing broadside at less than 170 steps.

I use 100 grain bullets for those pesky coyote critters and groundhogs alike. It works like a charm trust me, all the way out to 400 yards if you have a mind to shoot that far. You won't have to worry about which way they are facing either or weather the angle is iffy. You just put the crosshairs on the animal and drop the hammer down!

I handload all my own ammo and like using Nosler partition bullets for whitetail deer in my state of Missouri. I use 120 grain partitions and have NO complaints about those bullets doing a great job on any deer, varmint or predator.

Timberghozt, since last year I have gone to another hunting calbier  favorite of many who like bringing home the venison. I built a new rifle in the way of a 6.5 (.264 caliber) O6 . This is a very promising caliber and for sure will shoot on out to 500 and 600 yards with the right glass atop the barrel. All kidding aside, if you have the marksmenship skills, it will do the job in spades.

It does have a little more recoil than a .260 Remington or 6.5/284 but I am not competing in long range matches and worrying about recoil etc. It has 200 more feet a second than the .260 Remington has and is comfortable to shoot.

I had leaned towards the .264 Winchester but those do recoil more yet and the blast is louder it seems than my .300 Win mag. I'll get much better barrel life from the 6.5/06 and it is easyier on my shoulder.

I still love that 1/4 bore but I have decided to let my son use it to improve his shooting skills and hunt deer with this year. It gives him something to practice with besides his .338 mag model 70 Winchester.

I hear ya HiBall..I have good glass on both my Ackley and my Ruger 25-06.The Ackley is deadly..At 500 yards I can keep em all inside  a coffee cup:wink:
I can shoot a little further with it but have never tried a yote out to 600 yards..Thats  a long derned shot on a dog.Shootin paper at 500 yards is a bit easier than a coyote which seldom stands still for long and is at different ranges in the blink of an eye..
But its fun to do:thumbs:
