lol..Hey butch..My wifes tabby is not too inclined to do anything but sleep.I have been trying to show him how to catch the deer corn theives that accumulate in my backyard near the feeder but after failed attempts to actually get him to get up and chase the birds off I decided I better take care of it myself....

Nope, not me. I've got three of them that sleep right next to me. But I do like to take a whack at the bigger varmints that try to get them from my house.

cratblasting must be cat hunting? yep, i do it. a lot of it. i'm closing in on 100 kitties for the year this year. busted one yesterday at a lasered 167 yards... they have finally beat out skunks on my list for top honors of least liked animals.
pets are one thing - in fact, my wife has a cat that likes to hang out w/ me while i'm loading... but feral cats are another.
gf&p says that feral cats are to be shot on sight because of the damage they do for other critters (pheasants, most notably).
the problem comes from owners... they get these cats, fail to fix them, then have a litter or two of kittens every year, which are brought out and dumped... this leads to a monstrous feral cat population as the ferals breed and breed, and then more are dumped, etc etc etc... there have been days when i've shot as many as a dozen in a 1 mile drive. also, the inbreeding is insane! i've busted cats that had 7 toes on a paw, another had the 'canine' teeth on the lower jaw that have grown up to about .5" above the point of the nose, a couple w/ really pronounced 'second dew claws' (for a lack of a better term)... very easy to justify shooting the hell out of them when you see so many freaks of nature that they aren't freaks anymore, but commonplace. kind of like opening a x-mas present - you just have to go over there after recoil to see what this one looks like.

We don`thave any problems with them here.Feral dogs I have gotten into on one ranch I hunted on a few years ago and we wasted em on sight. It was 50 bucks off every hunt for every dog we shot.
I watched on the National Geographic Channel a show about them in Australia a while back. They are wreaking havoc on native species and they have no mercy on em.I don`t see any harm in disposing of them after all they are not a native evolved species there.
Here is my reloading buddy.I don`t really like cats but this is my wife`s mouse killer if you can get him to wake up long enough to run one down.Actually he`s too fat to run one down but he tries hard.. He`ll go sit on top of my reloading bench begging to be petted while I`m in my loading room.It usually works until I start using my scale. He is bad about knocking it around or powder jugs and such and has to be locked out of the room. This is his normal state...

I guess I've never been in an area that has feral cat problems. I've had feral dogs to deal with in the past, but not cats. Those cats Dakota described sound pretty nasty. If I had them running around I'd be popping them off too. Just don't tell my wife. I might end up sleeping with the dog.

The DNR here has a rule that if a cat is more than a 100 yards from a farm or house its feral so shoot it. I havent had the opportunity as I dont see many on public land but if I do it will go down!

| I've shot a few, well ok, alot of them. When I was in the 8th grade my grandparents retired from farming and moved to another house. He had these big cattle barns and there were cats around there all the time. None of them were tame, but he would put milk out for them when he did the milking. One time I was there when he did that and I counted 33 cats. Grandpa said "I don't think thats all of them". Well, anyway they came in and dozed the house and barns down except for one of the smaller barns. You could walk up on a sunny day and there were cats all over the place laying in the sun. Then the light bulb came on in my head, "hunt and stalk". It's amazing how smart those cats get when they hear gun fire after a few of their buddies fall over in front of them. The biggest gun my dad would let me have was a Marlin bolt action .22 mag. with a 4 X scope (I still have it today). The cats got smart and headed for the woods after a shot or two then the hunt was on. My best day was 6 kills, everyone of them had quail breathe. Grandpa was right, I hadn't seen all of them. To a boy in the 8th grade this was like going on a big game safari.

| I remember bein a dumb kid that liked them barn cats. Gramps had a cute one in the barn & I decided I was gonna pet him. I waited with a noose of bailing cord for him to come out and pulled,........ Funny thing, that cat didn't want me to pet him! He wasn't lettin me git the cord of'n his neck either. That was the only time my gramps laid a belt to my ass.

When I was a kid one of the neighbors would feed all the strays that would show up. When they divorced and left there were about 25 strays mostly sick that migrated to our farm and started infecting ours. Dad gave the go ahead and whenever we could we'd get em with the 22lr. Passed one up deer hunting this season at my in laws(thought it was theirs) Found out later it was a stray but didn't see it again(yet) Last edited on 12 February 2008 05:08 AM by jk3campbell

| My brother and I take care of any that we see. Funny story, last deer rifle season I walked out a draw that led up to my brothers stand. I was down in the bottom in heavy trees but his stand sets on the side hill up in the air and I could see him as I made my way through. Two big bucks had been seen in this area a few days prior and we have had good luck getting deer out of there in the past. Anyway I was walking it out watching him to see if he reacted to anything in front of me. I saw him bring his rifle up so I stoped walking. He aimed and shot then waved to me with a big smile on his face. I am thinking big buck so I trot up the draw to where he was shooting. I was looking on the ground for a dead deer but didn't see one. I looked up to him and he is still smiling. I asked him why and he said turn around and look up. When I did I got a surprise. There three feet up was what was left of a big old tom cat. Not much. Amazing what a 150gr 30-06 bullet will do to a tom cat.
