Heard on the news Friday that Idaho hunters had taken 29 of the 250 wolves authorized in this year's wolf hunt. That number is bound to rise now that the general big game seasons are upon us. I've thought about buying a tag - don't know if there are any left, and don't know what I'd do with a wolf once I killed it.

So, thanks to out of state do-gooders (and over their vociferous objections) we now have a wolf season in Idaho. Now that the concept has been proven (i.e., reintroduction of a species to its former range eventually leads to huntable populations), I say we sportsmen get together and reintroduce the grizzly bear to its former range within the great state of California. Hell, they've got one on the flag there - might as well have the real thing roaming the lush hillsides of the wine country, ruling the trails and traces of the San Bernardino Mountians, prowling the Hollywood Hills. We owe it to those nobel bruins to give them back the land we drove them out of 150 years ago.

We have a fair number of grizz here in Idaho, and we're generous folks hereabouts. Let those granola-munching animal lovers from the Bay Area come on up here, catch a few breeding pairs from around the city dumps at Rexburg and Tetonia, and then set a couple loose up there around Monterey - maybe another pair in Topanga Canyon, and few in Mendocino County. Then all we have to do is sit back and let them feed and breed. Before you know it, California will be selling grizzly bear tags. Of course, you won't be able to hunt them with lead bullets, but hey - progress is progress.

First of all, yes I am a hunter, but as a previous owner of a Mackenzie Valley timberwolf for over 14 years and witnessed first hand what a beautiful and intelligent animal a Wolf really is.I could never bring myself to kill one.It would be like killing the family dog,I can't see any reason for me to hunt them. I have set certain standards for myself. I would never shoot any animal that had young ones with it or anything i couldnt eat,I will not kill any animal just for the fun of killing it. I have witnessed many hunters shoot and kill animals for no other reason than to kill something. Im talking about me personally, not trying to bash anyone.Everyone has their own personal reasons for hunting, food, sport etc.

Definitely a love/hate relationship on wolves.Had 3 packs working our general hunting area. They ain't stupid, they cover a pile of ground in a day, and they are relentless.
The one problem I have with them, is how hard they've been on moose in that area. I guess you call it progress, but the area has now been 75% logged off, and a gas pipeline put thru one of the best moose breeding areas in southern Alberta. It cut down the number of places the moose had to hide out in, and the number of places the wolves ( and the Indians) had, to have to search in.
Don't see the moose coming off the ridges like you used to,
don't see the cow/calves you use to either.I think the wolves have got on to the wild horses more now, maybe the deer ,too. See a lot more twins and triplets in the deer than we used to. And I suspect they take quite a few cattle calves in the area.
Wolf is a beautiful predator, but, they are competition,
damned shame that is the way it has to be. I like hearing them.
They do make a fantastic mount, and bug cleaned skulls are pretty cool, too.

I lived with wolves for 25 years of my life in Alaska... I saw first hand how they decimate the game animals in their area, killing MUCH more than they could eat...

These days more and more people are getting attacked by wolves, and those attacks will only be going up! Our forfathers got it right, i guess we will have to learn our history all over AGAIN!!

Personally, i have no use for them, and would shoot one just to get rid of it...
