What is your pick as the most deadly coyote chambering of all time?I vote for the 220 Swift. With a 55 grain bullet no coyote evr made is safe inside of 500 yards and a skilled shooter. It is flat ,fast and speaks with authority along with the title of "Granddaddy of the varmint cartridges"...:sofa:

Kind of hard to argue with that 220 Swift.   I've used the 22-250, 223 and 22lr on coyotes.  Probably the 223 most.   One day I'd like to try my 270 and see what happens.

No arguments from me on that one. I had a .220 Swift back in my younger days and I would give my left N-- for another one but alas at a grand or more I cant afford one. Just like the AR15s:sad: Its so tuff being poor:rolleyes:

My first vote would be the .220 swift. I've shot one almost 25 years. I've had real good performance with a 52 gr. BTHP going 3923 fps. average.

Gunrunner, I've shot coyotes with my .270. I had some 90 gr. hollow points in it and if you want to keep the fur, forget this load. I shot one coyote that was quartering toward me at the 160 yard mark. I hit him in the shoulder and it almost cut him into. It dumped his guts where he stood and knocked the rest of him back a few feet.

An equal second vote would be the .243 and the 6MM. I've had some good "bang flop's" with these two.

I actually started with a 270Winchester on a Mauser action.  90 Grain Sierra hollowpoints.  Can't recall any coyote or bobcat running from it?  Of course, a few were flat missed and a few didn't die on the spot, but the shock was enough that even with a bad hit, they didn't feel like running away.  In the quest for accurate bullets, I found out it was a losing proposition and rediscovered why so many people were using something a little more appropriate for the game at hand.....but thinking of the term; "nasty" that 270 really did a job on coyotes.

I have owned a couple 220 Swifts and find it hard to argue with that selection.  Brass doesn't last like some others, but it does a marvelous job, especially with 55 grain bullets, although I used the 52 grain Speer HP for many years.  Of the match type bullets, that's the best, of we mean; most effective.

I have owned three 25'06s two of which have been Ackleys.  Covers all the bases, from 220Swift to 270Winchester.  As a serious predator caliber, there are no flies on this puppy.

As to twenty-four caliber, I favor the 6MM Remington, now on my third one, but I also have a 243 and it does a "nasty" job with the 70 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip.  In my 6MM, I have used a wide variety of bullets, but the nastiest would probably be the 75 gr. Sierra HP, the 60 Gr. Sierra HP, 87 gr. Hornady spire pt., or the 80 gr. Hornady pistol bullet, made for Witchita type handguns, but driven at rifle velocities, is very nasty.

That's about it, but if actually handling a cartridge gives you any clue, and you were to stick your hand in your pocket and feel the difference between a 6MM Remington and a 220Swift, with similiar bullets;that would give you some idea that they actually perform about the same on coyotes, terminally.  As in your pocket, it is almost impossible to tell dead coyotes, side by side, which was killed by a 6MM or a Swift, both produce "nice" exits.  (and) I am very careful about keeping those two cartridges in different pockets, when hunting.

Good hunting.  LB

i'm not sure there is a better coyote gun than a 25-06. the 220 and 22-250 make some damn powerful arguments, but i think the 25-06 is king of the coyotes, especially when a competent handloader is supplying the ammo.

get yourself a bottle of rl-25 and a box of 120 sierras, or some rl-22 and a box of 100 grain mean-n'-nasties of your choice, and see what happens...

In my experience, my 25-06AI with 58.5gr of 4831, pushing a 75gr Vmax is the most devistating round I have ever shot.  I have only killed a very few coyotes with it.  But, I like to pull fur.  This is definitely not the round for that.  LOL.

Ifn I just wanted to cut coyotes in half, I would look no further.....

That's cute:lol:

Try 255 grains of AAC8700 behind a 750 grain Hornady AMAX in a Armalite AR50, that's nasty!!!!!

When I lived in Lake Havasu City I whacked quite a few with my .22-250 Remington 700 Varmint. They never knew what hit them. Once while shooting my .458 at the range there, one walked across the range at about 175 yards out. My .458's aren't scoped so I let him be. I'll be the first to admit I was TEMPTED!!  billt.

I vote that 750gr A-max also.  I have a couple on hand from when the kids and I took a tour of the Hornady plant.  I feel for anything or anyone that gets touched by one of those.
