I just read every one of these post and I am in awe. You guys are very inspirational. Vincent, my jaw dropped reading your first post. How can you break so many bones and not be afraid to even walk to the bathroom ? I have broken both my baby toes and a week apart ! Tripped over a sofa in the dark. Two days latter same toe in the dark again walked into the doorway. 2 weeks later in Az. elk hunting, got up to take a piss at night and walked right into a rock .Could barely walk for 3 days. Couldn't get up in my treestand. Still arrowed an elk though. They all had one thing in common, walking around in the dark. Don't Do It ! That is miniscule compared to what all you guys are going through. Leep, I can't even beleive what has happened to you ! You other guys, I hope and pray all of you get better each day. What little pain I live with is nothing compared to any or yours. I used to race motocross for over 10 yrs. Now I'm paying for it years later. Fixed both of my kness fine. Broke a collar bone and never did anything about it like a fool. Can't sleep on my left side. The last 7 years my back has been killing me. Compressed disc, 3rd vertabread is mis aligned . I feel like I have no pain at all now after listing to you guys . Thanks ! Glad you two, Vincent and Leep, found your way back to the Handloaders Bench. Long as all of you guys don't fall out of you chairs.... Take care all of you guys and God bless.

Fall outa our chairs, fall outa' our chairs.??? Why you young whippersnapper...(Ah does anyone know what a whippersnapper is?)
Wait, what was I saying...Oh yeah chairs..So what if we are in chairs, mine is a high chair, with wheels, and a drop down lcd TV and a radio and a flip top that comes down so I don't dribble food all over...
Wait a minute, that sounds terrible....
Come ot think of it, that's my grandsons chair. Little critter...
Wyo...seriously, thanks for the kind words, I'm sure Vincent and the others appreciate them also..
You know what I really like about places like this??
You take a bunch of people who have no idea what we look like, or who we are and probably will never meet, but we develop a real fondness and affection and respect for people we probably wouldn't walk across the street to meet in real life.
Probably tells a lot about us as a race, but certainly not as individuals.
I tend to opine occasionally when I am sitting here hunched over the keyboard, trying to get the words out before I have to quit..But I have gotten more solace and have made more friends on this and other disabled sites than I have for quite some time..
I played music for over 20 years and have been on stage on the original Grand Ol Opry...Sang in front of over 5000 people and have been on TV and radio..had a lot of women of all shapes, sizes and ages who -for some reason-thoiught I was Gods gift to women...Poor deluded fools...
Lots of friends who slapped you on the back and bought you drinks... But the people you meet here and other places who share their thoughts, beliefs, their pain and other things that are probably not anyone elses business, make me feel a little better each time I read them..
Oh, back to the music. I sent Blindbud a cd and WYO also.. Maybe you might want to wait until you hear their unbiased opinions before you take a chance.. But, there are only two things i was ever any good at, singing and writing. So..I have about 10 cds left if anyone is interested in music from the 60s, along with 2 Christian songs, let me know.. I'd be glad to part with them to anyone interested, my treat..
Again, take care all..

Hey Leep ! Do you have a bipod on that chair too ? Dammit ! I know what a whippersnapper is. I'll be 50 in a few months. Can't wait...Man, you discribing people hit the nail right on the head. I couldn't have said it as well. As far as your CD you sent, I loved it ! You guys better get your orders in fast before they are gone ! I really liked the last song on the cd. One of the Christain songs. I asked you in the pm if you wrote it or any others. You do sound like Elvis ! You say you sounded better when you were younger ? Where can I buy your 33 rpm records or 8 track tapes ? Seriously though ? I still remember your stories about when you were a youngin in central Wy. It's was really neat to be able to know the exact towns. And to think how close you lived to where my 40 acres is now ! I really know what you mean about the difference in the people on this site . Like you said, I only know a few of my nieghbors and I've been in this house for 4.5 years. My other house and even fewer after 11 yrs. . I guess you can pretty much judge who you want to know and don't. I fly a flag 365 days. On my block I see 5 others. I wave to them and them me when I drive by. Just something personal. Leep you are a good man. Where has Vincent been ? He probably fell asleep at the pc. Somebody wake him up. I like reading his stories too. His , Leeps and everybody on this section make me feel, no pain compared to thier's and that's a good thing

Hey Leep, I started to read it Fri. night but it was so late I couldn't keep my eyes open. I will finish reading it this morning. I could tell you a few real grizzly stories. I think I sent Force Recon and BarebackPat some pics of a grizzly kill of a nice buck. Ate the ass end and the backstraps and covered it up with dirt and sage. Bear tracks and claw marks all over. On the way up the road about a half mile I saw a sow with 2 cubs going the opposite way. I'm pretty sure it was them because there was small tracks by the kill too. I sawed the antlers off with one eye on the deer and the other looking around. Had my 300 right next to me. I have a a couple stories better than that though but don't want to drag it out. They are so overun with grizzlies in the Cody area . One time I met a guy that had just killed a buck. He gut it out and was going back to camp for help. I told him he could use my pack frame I had on and I'd help him cut it up. We went back to his deer and we were about 100 yds from it and there was a griz on it all ready. He saw us and started bouncing up and down on it with his front legs. I told the guy screw you buck, it isn't yours anymore and we got the hell out of there. He got another tag at the F&G office. I was with my friend in Cody going back up the mtn. with his pack horses to pack out an elk we hung. We passed 4 grizzlies on the way up. We were about 150 yds. from the tree we hung the quarters/meat in and saw a grizzly by it. It would run about 15 yds towards us and go back bluffing us. Thank God my friend always takes his short barreled 12 gauge with him packing. (he's had this same problem before) He fired 4 times with 00 buck near the bear. I would run off about 20 yds. and comeback. Finally he fired a slug right in front of it and it took off. There was only him , me and his son in law. I watched with rifle as they loaded the paniers. Real fun. Too many stories. Later.

Dang, Don things have sure changed around Cody since i lived in Byron in 1980. It was hard to find a griz around anywhere outside the park then. I'da liked to have been along on some of those elk pack trips. Too busted up to walk more than about a mile anymore.
Good stuff, thanks for sharing.

Leep, can you ride a horse ? No need to walk ! There are trying to delist the griz from endangerd and delist the wolf now too because the are way out of control already. Killen the crap out of their elk heard (economy). Wait till Yellowstone doesn't have any elk. See how that goes over. The Feds wouldn't approve their wolf plan like they did Montana and Idaho's. I've seen wolves every year for the last 5 in the South and North Fork of the Shoshone River near Cody. They have to kill 5 to 10 of them a year that are killing rancher's cattle. I have one story about that but I'll spare you ! Duboise has grizzly problems too. A friend there was working on his fence and this grizzly was walking right to him. They have no fear of people from not being hunted since 1970 I beleive it was. Kinda like mtn. lions in Ca....Well, I found this big bottle of pepper spay one day and ask if it was his. He said yeah, I srpayed at the bear and ran. Why did he drop the bottle ...? Last edited on Sun Apr 8th, 2007 06:58 PM by wyo300rum

Don, now that was kinda funny. heck, I don't blame him for dropping the spray, cuts down on the weight when you are running..
I did a couple papers just on Grizzlies back in 85-87 when I was going to Penn State for my Wild Life Degree...Did a proposal and a reccomendation paper on them and read every grizzly bear book that wa sout at the time. I advocated using pepper spray back then when it was just coming on the scene. I said you should spray it anytime you see a bear whether it was presenting a problem or not, as long as they were downwind. I figured that sooner or later they would view us like they do a skunk, better left alone..
Danged if about 7 or 8 years later I read an article where the fish and game said the same things that I did. I never knew I was so smart..
Oh, yeah I could ride a horse, especially if he was a gentle one.
The last time i was on a horse was in 1988..I had a freind that was going to college with me in Laramie.(I went one semester, then had neck surgery) He lived in Afton, I really liked that little town, and he and i and another friend of his went into the Greys River drainage to hunt elk. I had just shown him a cow call and he was anxious to try it oiut.
I had to tail one of the horses up the mountain cause we only had 2 horses for three guys. I had never done that before, but the dang horse didn't seem to mind and it sure was easier going 6 miles up into the wilderness with him pulling me...I got to ride him back out though..No wait, I tailed him half way and rode him the rest of the way up cause my budy shot a bull that had the front end gone bad from someone who shot it earlier and we put the hind quarters on the other horse and we both had to walk out, but it was all downhill. Man that was along time ago- but I'll never forget the elk bugling and that beautiful classic mountain country.

Leep, one time I sprayed pepper spray on a neighbobs pit bull that used to come in my yard. He was on my doorstep growling at me and thought it would be more quiet than shooting him. The wind blew it right back in my face and it felt like somebody hit me in the face. Didn't get it too bad thank God. Maybe you could come to Cody the 1st week of Nov. sometime. My friend has some pretty nice horses. Gonna go elk/deer hunting. This year have an elk tag too. I like Afton allot too. They have an antler arch across main st. I hunted the Grey's River area in 1988 too ! It was in the middle of Oct. for deer. Were you there in Sept. for elk ? I think it opens Oct. 1st for general rifle season. Sept. for archery. . Also saw allot of moose there too. Maybe we crossed paths ? That was the only time I hunted Grey's River. If the elk were bugling I'd say it was in Sept. during the rut. That's what I like about archery elk season in Az. almost every year. Love to hear them bugle. Gotten drawn 3 yrs. in a row now. Got one the last 2 yrs. Hope I do this Sept. again ! Never tailed a horse before. I guess you got to do what you got to do !

Hey Don, It was late in October when we went up there.I remember cause I had three different gulls grunting/squealing at me from a deep draw. One was so close that i could steam or breath raising off him about 25 yds away..
I just didn't know what to do. I cow called a little and spike elk called, but after the first couple grunts. deep ones, he just shut up. I figured out later, when I got more educated about elk, that he sneaked in on me and either saw me or winded me..
I used to go to Cody a lot- i really liked it there. Course Jackson Hole is probably my favorite although the Afton area is nice too. Some Junction there too where you turn and go up the Greys River, really a creek but what a pretty one.
That would sure be nice to go along with a hunt like that. I guess we'd have to see what kind of shape i'd be in..
It's funny, I have a unibersal weight bench out in the back room, only can use it about twice a month for about 10-15 minutes at a time.Lol But, I can still do 50 pushups, in pretty good form in about aminute..
But, everything I do just hurts so darn much. But I'd rather try to keep my body in shape and take more pain than let myself go too far downhill then its too hard to catch back up.
Anyway take care and talk to you again.

Leep, If they were bugling in late Oct. it wasn't because they were in they rut. I've heard them bugle up to early Oct. in Wy. and Col. but I think then they are just talking to each other. Hell I don't know, thats what you went to school for ! That's the Hoback Junction you are talking about on the way up to Jackson coming out of Idaho. That creek in the Snake River. Pretty sure thats what you are talking about. I was there from Oct. 14th to....maybe the 20th. Opening day was the 15th. That's pretty neat just to know you might have been there. Jackson is full of rich folk, dems and movie stars. That's the only problem with it. Have you ever seen the elk feeding grounds going east out of Jackson ? Unbeleivable. The bulls and cow separate. and there are thousands of them. The wolves will take care of that... You can see hunfreds of 6 pointers +, all together. I've taken videos just so I can prove it to friends. You are so right about staying in shape ! 50 pushups in a min. ! I'd be lucky to get 25 ! I bet somebody is going to get on our ass for bs'ing back and forth on here. Last edited on Mon Apr 9th, 2007 03:25 AM by wyo300rum
