I love the outdoors and hunting and fishing. I get really antsy while i'm sitting in my deer or bear stand. I just can't sit for too long i need to keep moving. How can i solve this problem? Can it be the meds i'm on making figity or antsy? I just want to sit and i can't. Does anyone else have this problem?
When i was healthy me and my brother would walk and hunt all the time we never sat in one spot. Now i found out i can't just sit...... but at the sametime i can't walk anymore either. What can i do to solve this problem. I'm ruining some good chances and good hunts having this problem.

hunting isnt just about collecting game.it is about seeing game and the experience of being apart from civilization.enjoy the time away from it all.

Bill, I'd ask your Doctor about the meds or look it up on webmd. I've been that way all my life. People used to watch me from a distance in my stand and wonder why I saw anything at all. Once I started Turkey hunting and sitting still became a necessity it seemed to get easier. I've got a buddy who actually reads paperbacks (Louis LaMour) on stand. He keeps his head down and reads two pages. Raises his head slowly and cautiously, checks for movement of game, moves his hands with minimal motion to turn the page and reads two more. He's killed more turkeys and deer on stand than I ever see. RD

Hi Big Bill, I know what you mean, I'm a ground person and have to sit still, was in a tree stand once never again, I don't think the birds use it either the way that thing swayed in the wind I got down and said nope not for me. I like sitting on a nice day and just letting nature play in front of me I have had chickadees sit on my rifle barrel and on my mittens pecking at my lips in curiosity, even red squirrels sitting on my boots and hoping they don't run up my pant leg time just goes by but you know a deer is very near when you see a bunch of crows flying about. just sitting and watching nature play you learn how to play and watch for the signs, it's a wonderful get away from the daily grind of stuff just watch the Forrest creatures and relax have fun. and once your relaxed your not throwing energy out for the deer to pick up on...

i suggest a pop up ground blind.i have one about 5 foot square.big enough for 2 in a pinch.that way you can wiggle around and not alarm game.i have even used a heater on really bitter cold days.

Bill, I have the same problem if I'm sitting on a stump or behind a bush. But put me in my Summit BackPacker or a groundblind, like the DogHouse, and I can sit for hours.

I have a lawn chair that I keep in the blind, some times I just sit it out when the deer come up to the house.
I have a hard time taking a long walk in the woods on a snowy day because of the arthritis in my feet. So I let them come to me.
The field behind my house is a great place to hunt if you are patient. if I want to tramp thru the woods, I go down to where I have 503 acres, plenty of deer, but my feet hurt terrible after walking thru that area. Its like hiking "Agony and Misery" but hit hurts much worse these days and it is cold.

Bigbill.I'm in your shoes for sure. I was the same way,but now can't walk more than a 100 yds or so. I'm fortunate enough to have a few good mules which I can still ride,so I ride to where I can sit.
I fins if I take a few good books with me,that really helps.

I sling a folding camp chair over my shoulder when heading towards a blind or stand. The only reason folks like Daniel Boone didn't do it is because they (folding chairs) hadn't been invented yet.
