First, I'd like to thank all those who had some input about my shoulder operation!

Did get the job done on June 19. The doctor said that every thing went well.  I found out on my follow-up visit on Wednesday past that he put  seven screws in the top of the humerus to re-attach the ligament that was pretty well torn loose. A 7 on a 1-10 scale.

After an overnight stay, my son picked me up and brought me home. Can't figure out why the doctor got upset when I told him I was going to drive home:lol:.

Managed to stop the pain drugs the day after going home..Two reasons-1. it didn't hurt enough to take them, and 2. I don't like what they do to you and how they make you feel!! The PA told me to save them for physical therapy. Hmm-I wonder what he meant by that??

Another bad part--I can't drive for three more weeks...bummer!

I guess I should be glad that it wasn't my right side, since I'm right-handed. Those of you who have had your dominant hand immobilized, know what I mean!!

Good health to all!!

Glad to hear the surgery went well.  Sorry to hear that you can't drive for three more weeks but don't rush the recovery.  Take your time and let it all get as good as it's going to be before you decide to try and start tearing it apart.

The PT is going to be alot less fun than the surgery was.  Good luck.   On the up note that means you'll get to be here reading and slowly typing replys.

  Take care Be safe Poacher.

Thanks for the thoughts. One good thing about this whole thing is the fact that the PT lady is a real doll, with a personality to match. Too bad I'm not thirty years younger...... But wait---that would make her not born yet.

Typing--there's another problem. At my best with both hands useable, typing was slow, but now it's at the speed of tectonic plates.

At least my sling is a good carry holster....

If you were 30 years younger, she'd still be the same age ... unless you wished she were 30 years younger too! Or were you talking about traveling backward in time? I don't know if I'd want to be 30 years younger. Sure, the young women are easy on the eyes, but having lived through that period of life once already, I know how much trouble one can get into by "looking". That's where it all starts.

The devil, as many of us know (and others suspect, with good reason), is female.

Glad you're doing OK. Hope it all goes well for you. I've had shoulder rehab and I don't want any more of that.

PT lady a cutie, eh? Just wait 'til you find out she's a Rehab Nazi and loves to torture people. You'll change your tune plenty quick!

Best of luck.

Keep us posted.

Get a good physical therapist who has had lots of experience with shoulder repair.I had a 50% tear in my right bicep & a torn rotator cuff, the PT I used followed the instructions of the surgeon to the letter so I was in PT   3 days a week for 5 months but I have better use of my arm, they taught me to fill 6 ounce waxed dixie cups with water and freeze them solid then after working out tear the rim down to expose the ice and rub the the shoulder until the ice is gone:first it's cold, then it burns, then it goes numb & the pain is gone.Worked on my knee after medial torn miniscus surgery. After my experience with the PT I sent my wife there for rehab & our friends.the PT in Redlands,CA is very popular, I met several fellow  LE officers there, doctors, judges & school staff.

sako06, thanks for the info. I'll be sure to ask the doctor to give complete instructions to the PT.

One problem that I will have to get around is the fact that Medicare allows a max dollar amount of $1810.00 per year, not occurence, for PT, and I've used up  $950.00 on my broken ankle. How the Hell did they settle on $1810.00??

I've received advice to go to the VA for a referral. Maybe back to my own PT. Never have dealt with the VA since my discharge, so this would be a learning experience. Was lucky over the years with company furnished insurance, with very little out-of-pocket expenses.

I'm like the gangster character "Hyman Roth" in the Godfather movies. When interviewed about his income, his reply was" I'm a retired investor, living on a fixed income". That's me, except for the "investor" part.

Good shooting:thumbs:.

I was injured taking self defense classes but I waited too long so work comp denied my claim,Kaiser Permanente repaired my bicep & rotator cuff then I contacted the PT advising I wasn't a work comp case so wasn't charged $90 per session only $25.Ask them what rates they charge for self pay .If you know anyone in your local fire  or police dept ask them where they go for PT.I've never used the VA either but most of my vet friends have it's a heck of a lot cheaper for 3 month supply of meds and no monthly fees just pay per visit.Another friend uses the VA in Redding,CA but when he needed a quadruple bypass he used medicare at the local hospital & everything was fully covered.

Just as long as I can hold it up with my left arm I'll be happy. That's rifle, of course...
