I just recieved the new Cabela's 2007 Shooting Catalog in the mail yesterday and prices are up on all ammunition and loading components almost across the board. For example Magtech .45 ACP that used to sell for $9.99 now sells for $13.99 a box of 50, up $4.00 a box! This trend continues thru out the catalog. Brass, copper, and lead prices have gone way up since last year. The good news is one of my local Wal-Marts still has CCI Blazer Brass in .45 ACP for $9.95. I try and buy a few boxes every time Melanie or I go there. I have a strong feeling this price isn't going to last. At $9.95 a box I can't assemble it for that price by handloading new components. I hope to accumulate enough brass so after I shoot it I'll have plenty of cases for reloading. If your Wal-Mart doesn't have it, ask the store manager to order it for you. It's going to get more expensive for us to enjoy our sport in time to come. I'm trying to stockpile as much as I can. From a cost standpoint this makes sense. Bill T.

Pric3s for anything made of metal have been climbing for at least the last year, and there are no signs of it stopping.
It shouldn't be an issue on this board, but any shooters who do not handload better start!

Good point! Also, even if you don't handload save all of your reloadable brass because if you accumulate enough of it you can always sell it to someone who does, and in the process recover some of your shooting costs. I reload for everything I shoot, and like most reloaders I'm a "scrounger", and always looking for good deals on brass. Bill T.

Prices for lead shot have gone through the roof. It was less than $15.00 at this time last year. I saw some at $23.00 the other day. Hardly pays to fire up the old MEC. RD

I saw the same article in the Cabela's shooting catalog!
Probably the best place to find a deal is somebody who orders large quantities of components or who has old stockpiles from before the price hikes.
I need to find some Nosler partitions before they get any more out of control!

I bought some primers back in the summer. I couldnt find any locally so I had to order. There were two 2006 Cabelas shooting books. The first one had the primers for 95. I decided to bite the bullet and pay the hazmat fee. When I got them on the phone the price had went up to 105. The price had changed in the newest book. It isnt going to get any better from the looks of things. Its like gas, they know they can get more for it now so they will.

I noticed the prices going up all the time now too.
I shop at http://www.the-armory.com and the http://www.sportsmansguide.com besides at cabelas. Its a matter of who has the best prices and or a shipping coupon too. The shipping costs have gone thru the roof too.
At the armory even the spanish 9mm largo went up from $4.95 a box to $7.95 a box of 20rds now too. Everything is going up.
There seems to be shortages of 7,62x39 too lately. (wolf)
Its time to invest in bricks of 22lr ammo now and shoot that again because its cheaper.
Its funny i stocked up on 338win.mag ammo when it was $20 a box and i thought that was expensive?? Whats it now $40 or $50 a box? I purchased the dies already. I was using winchester 338 ammo and putting two bullets thru the same hole at 100yds why reload when the over the counter ammo was that good. But the cost has changed that.
I been wanting to get some russian made barnaul stuff because i heard its more accurate over the wolf ammo. I think the barnaul ammo is offered in more soft point bullet weights too. A few years back i found 30-06 barnaul ammo for $1.99 a box of 20 i purchased it all.
A few years back i seen a guy shooting a 30-06 using fail safe ammo by the box. I think he went thru 6 boxes in a short time. The ammo then was $25 a box plus the range time.
Now we have to figure in the amount for Gas too to get there. We getting it from all ends now????????
I planted a big garden this year, and corn too. I wonder how much corn is needed to make fuel? I think were going to run our cars on moonshine next I heard it on the tv today there going to use ethenol only.....we can run the cars on it or drink it too?
I guess its time to get or make a berdan decapper?
I only stock pile ammo when it was affordable like $59 for 1,000 of 7,62x39 and $99 for 1,000rds of 223. Now when the prices are higher i only replace what i shoot up. Or i buy when its on sale or shipping costs are lowered or free shipping is offered then i buy.
In times like these I feel bad for the Pets that get thrown away or put in the pound. I'm thinking of getting another dog and two cats to save them. I have to do something to help them. I told the misses i'd like to adopt kids too. My kids are grown and the house is empty now. I'd like to make there life better.

I buy once fired brass to replace my worn out brass. I purchased large quantites of stuff many years ago, so I pretty set on things. But I do buy factory ammo now and then and yes the prices have gone up.
So this is where we all need to become better shots, so one shot is all you need.

You can now buy from cabelas on line catalog, and have your order shipped to a cabela store near you, and you dont have to pay shipping charges. I have a cabelas store very near me in Boise and i just had 500 .204 Ruger cases (winchester) shipped to them.

I have a Cabela store about 40 minutes away over in Wheeling. I have a lot of stuff shipped to the store for pickup. Walmart will do the same thing for you. Plus the Walmart near the Cabela is stocking sports department that carries reloaidng supplies.

Out here on the wrong coast we don't have that luxury our nearest cabelas is in glendale,az a bit too far to travel with petrol prices up too high and the damned worthless demonrat politicians won't open up drilling anywhere where we know large quantities of oil exist. I am very sorry to hear of your situation, Sometimes no matter how hard you try, up jumps the devil. It's happened to me several times.
We have signs in all the sporting good, and gun shops that warn us that they can not sell guns to any one who is a california resident. Because of the dumb Lib laws that were passed in that state
I have a friend who lives in San Diego county, and he is an avid coyote caller who hunts all over the state, and is trying to find those Barnes Copper bullets for his .204 so he can hunt, because of that Condor crap.

The one place that seem to end up buying from is Midway. Almost everything I can find there. Of recent I have been buying from Fred Huntington for custom stuff he seems to have a lot of stuff in stock when I need it.
I have weighted the cost of driving versus the cost of shipping and many times shipping is cheaper, even thou I saw gas for about $3.60 to day.

Jerry, you're dead-on about the shipping costs vs. costs of driving to the local ammo dump and buying stuff. It's a real consideration for me. I almost always take a look at Midway online to see how the scales balance before I head down the road to a local store. Sometimes Midway is the clear winner in terms of cost. I'd rather do business locally and support the stores that carry what I need, but I'm not willing to go broke buying fuel to do it.
I enjoy browsing the isles at Cabela's and Sportsman's (even if I don't buy anything), but they're a 10 and 13 mile drive respectively (each way) from where I live. My Explorer gets about 17mpg with the AC off, so in terms of gas alone, that's gonna be six bucks or more round trip, plus whatever I buy. If all I come back with is a single box of 100 bullets for $14.99, the actual cost of my haul for the day is more like $21.00 (not counting wear and tear on the rig, exlusive of gas). Some stuff they just don't carry locally, so I have no choice but to order it online. Can't get misc. parts for my Piggyback III locally, for example, except for SOME shell plates, and .32ACP brass and bullets are harder to find than hens' teeth around here.
I was at Cabela's yesterday and saw S&B 9mm Luger 115 and 124 grain FMJ's for $10.99 a box of 50 in either bullet weight. Not too bad for loaded, boxer-primed ammo. Didn't need any so I passed it up. It's noteworthy that they sell new, unprimed 9mm brass for $20.00 a hundred. On the other way of the spectrum, I saw Winchester .45ACP 230 grain FMJs at Sportsmans for upwards of $40 a box!
Makes me oh so happy to be a handloader!

I drive a Honda Element and get upwards of 30 mile to the gallon. The local gunstore is 5 minutes away, but they don't stock a lot of reloading stuff, so I order from Midway most of the time.
If I need to go to Cabala, that is 45 plus minutes away via freeway, but I try to make it a trip worth driving, so I go over to the Wally World across the parking lot, they have there, which stocks reloading stuff. Then the other stores. I have to make it worth my while, because that is a lot of driving. The last time I went over to that shopping area, I bought a new smoker, supplies for the smoker, ammo, reloading stuff, a couple of Uncle Mikes holster and lots of other stuff. Then when grocery shopping. Son they will have a movie theatre there.
When I say I live in BFE, Ohio, I am actually 20 miles further away, so I am really out in nowhere. But I can shoot in my back yard on a 100 yard range, hunt with out leaving my land. So things seem to compensate in the long run.
