Can anyone recommend a good GPS? I'd like one that I can upload maps into if necessary,. I use it mainly for ice fishing, some highway navigation. I bought one last year. It only shows major highways and most lakes. I was out in the middle of a lake ice fishing last week. I went to mark the spot on the GPS, and according to the GPS there was no lake where we were. And it isn’t a new lake.

My GPS is going to be considered very low-tech compared to what your asking for....Garmin eTrex handheld. But I have plenty of confidence in recommending any Garmin product. I would start with a search on their site?

This link will at least get you to their site, after that.....sorry, it's above my head.

I use the E-Trex Legend and it works better than any GPS i have tried to date. Here is the data on this unit. They have come down in price and you can get them for under 150.00 now.
Garmin eTrex Legend GPS - Description
With the eTrex Legend, Garmin has loaded a full basemap of North and South America into one small unit. The Legend is also designed to provide precise GPS positioning using correction data obtained from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). This product will provide position accuracy to less than three meters when receiving WAAS corrections.
The basemap contains lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads and coastlines. The eTrex Legend is also equipped with additional memory totaling eight megabytes. The added memory allows the eTrex Legend to accept downloaded map data from the entire line of Garmin MapSource® CD-Roms, including Fishing Hot Spots®.
The eTrex Legend comes in a brightly-colored translucent blue case that really makes the unit stand out. New to the product design, Garmin has included marine aids to navigation in addition to the basemap. These navigational aids are pre-loaded into each unit

Bill,
Another thumbs up for the Garmin E-Trex series. I've used several in these series as well as the Magellans through work and personal use. The Garmin E-Trex is my favorite as far as cost, features, reliability and user-friendliness.
I'll try and post up a "GPS" thread somewhere so as not to clutter this thread. Hopefully, I can discuss what process and features I used to pick the model I did.
