i found this sit while looking for info on 44 specials and 357 magnums. I have loaded 44 specials for along time and allways used 5 grains of bullseye and they have worked fine. now I am going to load 357 but the interesting thing is if you look at my Speer manual it doesn't cover all the grain bullets and same for the 44.One site I have been on gives different powder weights than my manual I also want to load for my 270. My name is Dave and I live in Eureka ca. I am retired due to an injury but I fish and hunt and shoot a couple of times a week at the range.

You may want to get one of those cartridge specific loading manuals.  It's a gathering of all current loading manuals...put into one book.

What kind of projectiles are you wanting to fire in your .357Mag?

dave k, you might want to buy the Lyman #48 manual. Since they do not manufacture any jacketed bullets, they cover several different brands with a large variety of powders. Lyman's manuals are the ones I have used the most for over forty years. If there is a Sportsmans Warehouse, or a similar store near you, leaf through the Lyman manual, It covers a lot!!!!! Good shooting.

Another nod for the Lyman book. As pointed out, since they don't sell components, they have no axe to grind.

Bullseye will work in the .357 and .44 Special, just isn't my taste. I lean toward Unique as my general purpose handgun powder, can use it from .32 ACP to .45 Colt, and everything in between. Only other powder I use consistently is W 231, and that's only for .45 ACP shotloads.

For reloading manuals I also prefer the lyman books I use Lymans #46 and their pistol and revover handbook. As for powder I use w231 in the 45 acp for revolvers I use Unique it works well for me.

in the 357 with a 158 gr bullet you will need slower powders to get maximum performance.
