Hi everyone. Found your forum during a search for handloading sites. Have been handloading for about two years now with a Ruger 3006 which is now rebarreled to 6.5x55 Swede, and a 1952 Marlin 336 Remington 35 cal. Recently took a black bear with the Marlin, my first. A good video (where I get camera shock and make a fool of myself..) of our successful hunt shot by my partner, Bill Stock, for Alberta bear hunting promotion can be viewed on http://www.huntingfootage.com. You will have to register but it only takes a minute or two. Page down to Bears category and find the "Alberta Bear Full Length" video.
I had mistakenly bought a bag of Remington 35 cal. 200g. psp's instead of the Remington 35 cal. 200g. sp to handload the Marlin. (I now know about using psp's in a tube thanks) After a series of half grain increases from 36g. to 38.5g. of IMR 4064, I settled on 38.5g. as an accurate load for my Marlin.
It turns out that the 35 cal. 200g. psp was developed for the 356-358 cartridges and cannot be relied upon to expand at milder 35 rem velocities. In camp the guys advised me to "keep shooting at the bear until it stops moving" in order to stop the bear from getting back into the bush, where it would be difficult to find and dangerous to follow expecially in the dark. I ended up shooting the bear four times with the fourth shot probably not needed. Three bullets were recovered under the skin- one perfectly mushroomed, one had separated and lost it's core, and the third was in perfect condition, undamaged and unexpanded. The fourth was never found. Range was 20-40 yards.
After extensive discussion at the MarlinOwners forum I became convinced that bullet used was unreliable in my Marlin. I will be buying 200g. Core Lokt flat-nosed SP's for next year's hunt as they are tried and proven with those members to behave as designed for the 35 rem.
I hope to find modern recipes for my rebarreled 6.5x55 Swede barreled Ruger (a lefty) in order to fully utilize the potential in this modern firearm. It is hard to find higher pressure (on the order of 50,000-52,000 psi) loadings for it which are not compromised by safety for older swiss rifles. I have purchased two boxes of Nosler heaven.. 120g. Ballistic Tip, and 130g. Accubonds for a good beginning. It was sweet to find the Accubonds as I did not know Accubonds were made in .264 at all. Up here I like to use Winchester primers as they behave like magnum primers in cold weather (say -25 to -35 F.)
I look forward to meeting you all.

Yes I miss Alberta a lot, but I retired from an American University and my benefits along with my pay stop at the border.
So once in a while I plan a trip, last time was during the Stampede.
