Gonna be pretty mundane, but here goes.

Will be hunting my small place, Real County, Texas. NE corner of the county, less than a mile from the Edwards County line.

The light colored area is a claypit/wet weather tank. Draws whitetail, turkeys, and other critters, including some free ranging exotics. Terrain is mostly rock and cedar (juniper), witha smattering of live oaks. Open areas are native grass. Most shots are 100 yards and less, longest I have ever taken here was 125 yards, on a decent 8 pointer.

Spent some time early this year chopping cedar and prickly pear, opening things up some.  The clear land to the NW is a large ranch, whitetail travel from it to the thick cover to the E and ESE of me. Sometimes I use a feeder, and sometimes I don't. When you are on the right trails, it doesn't matter much. If you do hunt a feeder, much better to place it away from your blinds, and watch the trails to it. Older bucks will stay in the brush, and watch the youngsters and does go in and feed.

I've never taken anything I could consider a trophy here, just eatin' deer. Some of my neighbors have seen and photoed some very nice bucks, and a friend who I let hunt there one year came back telling me of a 20 to 22 inch 12 that ran the brushline one morning.

Haven't settled on what I will use this year, likely several rifles. Still want to take a whitetail with a smoothbore and patched ball. Might carry my 20 bore fowler.

Was up yesterday, 9/1/07. Drove thru scattered rain all the way. Native grass is 18-24 inches tall, saw some Sudan that was 4 to 5 feet. Pear that i cut earlier in the year all rooted, growing like crazy. In a normal year, everything I cut would have dried and died before it had tme to root.

Water in the tank. Saw whitetail raccon, turkey, possum, coyote and bobcat tracks. Something for everyone.

Set up a feeder. For you boys that don't like 'em, well, tough. Legal here. Feeder motor's weak, would only spin for 3/4 to one second, no matter what the duration was set at. Will need to replace the motor next trip up.

Was planning on staying the night, but Mrs. Charley was along, and worried about rain. I knew I'd not hear the end of it if it rained, so we headed home about 8:00 PM.
