Here is a Cowboy load that I made for a fellow club member.  It is from Hodgdon's older Cowboy manual.  I used a bullet weighing 155 grains rather than 158.

.38 special: cases were mixed and trimmed; Primer was WSP; Bullet was a cast 155gr RNFP / hard alloy; 3.1 grains of Hodgdon's International clays.

This load leaves small amounts of powder in the barrel.  A tighter crimp may help.  However, it shoots well to 50 yards, has low noise and recoil.  The bullet is from NIE hand tools #160.  I had Walt cut this bullet shallow with only two grease grooves.  The full depth has a flat base, three grease grooves and is 198 grains.

 Yours, HP

I am posting this one again.  I will avoid the centering button this time.  I have used some of these loads; H-110/Win 296, Lil'Gun, IMR 4227.  This info was retieved from the Web; Los Angeles Silhouette Association and Handloads.com.

Fired from a 5.5" Redhawk, 45 deg. F.  For these to fit in the Ruger I had to use 38 Special cases.  The bullet is a 35 caliber rifle LFP from Beartooth.  This data has not been pressure tested; it didn’t show any signs of being over pressure but should still be approached with caution.

I shoot the 357 Maximum cartridge in both a 10 inch and a Super 14 Contender.

Here is my best load for hunting:

Bullet: 214 grain LSWC, Gator or Hornady Gas Check, sized to .358, Lyman Mold # 358627

Powder: IMR-4227 Start load 11 grains, MAX load 14.7,

My hunting load: is 12.5 grains of IMR-4227

Remington Brass, CCI Small Rifle Magnum Primer.

I generally use the Super 14 barrel for hunting, I get a velocity of about 1,300 fps.

If I have to use the 10" barrel due to some law, I think the velocity is around 1,150 fps.

Jerry

Yeah, and I used to pay $5.00 per thousand for primers too.  Those days are long gone.  Thankfully my income is greater now than it was then.

I am interested in trying that 25-06 load. Did you get to chronograph it? What is the power range do you think? Mid-range, full power, or....?

Thanks,

257 Ackley Improved:

120 Gr Sierra HPBT GameKing
W-W Super +P cases fireformed
48 Gr H4831SC
Federal 210 LR Primers

85 Gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
Remington Cases fireformed
53 Gr Re19
Federal 210 LR Primers

90 Gr Sierra HPBT GameKing
Remington Cases fireformed
52.5 Gr Re19
Federal 210 LR primers

Both of the lighter bullets are very accurate and clock out at around 3300 fps. Great for rock chucks, gophers, PD's, coyotes on the run, Badgers, etc.

The 120 grain bullet leaves the spout at 2900 fps and is quite accurate and effective for medium sized game including Caribou and elk with "well placed" shots.

Regards,
Bill

This is a MAXIMUM load reduce more than 10% and work up.  I would not recommend this load in an older firearm.  I occasionally see flattened primers but no cupping.  I can back it down to 59 grains and get a slightly larger 3-shot group.  This one is sub .75 MOA if I can stop squeezing a round off when I breathe in.

06 Browning A-Bolt II Leupold Vari-X III 4.5x10x40

60 grains of IMR 4350
150 grain Nosler partitions
Cartridge length is 3.335-40 and I have magazine issues
Federal 210M primer
R-P Nickel case
Trigger is set to 3 pounds

For ballistic tips I use 59 grains, shoots right under an inch.

I clean every 20 rounds or less and the first round is true.

Depending upon where you check, This load for my 243 is over maximum or well within specs so be extra careful in working up your loads.

243 Remington 700  ADL Barska 3x12x50
trigger is set to something like 3.15 pounds but it exactly matches in feel the Browning.  I have all my triggers set up to "feel" the same way, I had a patient and good gunsmith.

43.5 grains of RL19
95 grain Nosler Ballistic tip or Partitions
Federal 210M primer
R-P cases
COL is 2.750 and this has to exact the rifle is very picky about COL

My 14 year old twins shoot sub 1 inch with this load, I can squeeze it down to under .75.

Rifle is cleaned every 20 or so and requires a fouling round.

I see no overpressure signs at all.

When I used to shoot the 100 grain partitions I used 45.5 grains of IMR7828 and was extremely pleased with the results.
