I've been runnin 168TTSX's @ 3425fps with good results, but want to mess with 180 Accubonds and Retumbo for longer range work(reserving the 168's for my Roy). Any experience with this combo is appreciated.

hello, hunter5325. not getting much play on this one. i can't comment on the components from the .300rum specifically but am using both retumbo and the 180 accubond that you're asking about in my warbird. the combo is going about 100 fps faster then your rum's got the 168's going. wonderful performance at extended ranges. the bullet has been used up here in mt on some big bodied mule deer with very pleasing results. i'm sure you'd see similar on game performance for a rum. i doubt you'll have any trouble finding an accurate load. i have accubonds running in darn near everything i have .257 up through the .308 caliber class appropriate for deer hunting and all have proven real easy to work with at the bench getting an accurate max load established. i imagine 3300 fps would be a reasonable velocity expectation with the powder and that weight bullet in your rum. make sure to report your findings. and good luck.

There is a guy on another forum that uses 200 grain accubonds in the 300 RUM and getting 3200 fps. He says that they do a number on longer shots. I think he uses RL25.

i agree. that 200 would be another nice one to give a try in a rum.
they were used for a while in the warbird and performed real well on game, as would be expected of the brand of bullet.
now i'm tinkering with a 208 gr. a-max. used it last year on antelope and deer and it did well. expiramintation never ceases. under selective shot placement on elk, i'm sure it would do fine with that sized game, too. it's just a light bullet construction to handle all scenario's you might see in the field on elk.
180 seems to be my "go to" bullet weight in the .308 rifles i've owned over the years. was ballistic tips at first and now with these accubonds, they're just a real nice bullet.

i shoot the 190 VLD's and the 210 VLD's (Berger) with 93.0 and 92.0 gr. Retumbo, seated right at .020 off the lands...no pressure IN MY RIFLE...210's@ 500 yds right at 2-1/2" all day....custom Rem 700 27-1/2" bbl....Seems Retumbo likes the heavy bullets...rsbhunter

BEEN USING 96.0 GR. OF H-1000 BEHIND 168 VLD FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS, 3 ELK AND 2 MULIES, ALL OVER 500YDS. AND ONE COYOTE AT 830 (LUCK I THINK ON THE 'DOG)
USE FED 215'S, AND LOAD TO MAX LENGTH THAT WILL FIT IN MA OF REM. 700, AND I HAVE A PAC-NOR 27" BBL

lacking flat land to do very long shots, I can do 200 yards and take a deer with the bullet passing thru. Or at less than a 100 yards shooting a coyote and turning it inside out.
I like the heavier Barnes Bullets, especially the 200gr TSXFB, I use 88 grains of Norma Magnum Rifle Powder in this load.
For using the 200grain Barnes Bullets with Retumbo, try a starting load of 81 grains and a Max load of 86 grains.
