I think i have found my deer load. I tried the Nosler 140 gr BT with Hod 4350 , 47,48,49 and the rifle grouped the 48 gr load the best just over a inch. I then tried the Sierra 160 gr BTHP with 47,48,49 gr of Hod 4831SC . The rifle grouped all three loads well with 49 gr grouping the best, typical 4831 groups tighten up as you reach max load. The 49 gr will be my deer load in this rifle. I believe this load will get better as the barrel gets broke in better and the brass is fired to fit the chamber. The Lilja barrel after 10 to 12 rounds was cleaning up with three to four patches with Butch Bore Shine with the patches coming out as clean as they went in. This barrel is very smooth, great barrel. This group was the 20 Thu 24Th round down this new barrel . This load should work great on Big Game.

That`ll work my friend! Bob you`re gonna fall in love with that 7x57..Its got plenty of bite when it hits meat and bone, yet it is tame as a mouse when ya pull that trigger and she bumps your shoulder. The older I get the more I appreciate a fine chambering and the 7x57 is in the top five of my all time favorites. Nice rig ya got Bob.

Nice load! The 7x57 is also one of my favorite's. That crono report looks like it came from the printer with a Pact MK IV. I got the same one and love it! Mine is over 15yrs old now and running great.

This load is the first one with the 160 gr bullet which i prefer in the 7mm cal. The 140 may start about a 100 fps faster but the 160 gr soon over take it when the distant gets longer. Yes this came from Pact Ballistic Computer. I believe I can get this rifle to be a 1/2 inch rifle with just a little more load development. I don't mind recoil but I would be lying if I said I like it. The 7x57 is a pussy cat on the recoil part.

bea,
I think I've seen you somewhere before... .
Nice group. I have a box of those bullets set aside for a 7x57 that has been at the 'smiths too long due to my chronically short attention span and quickness in buying new rifles rather than sending him a check.
I really like those homemade targets. Great idea.Last edited on Sat Sep 12th, 2009 03:32 AM by efwake

I get well under an inch with my 7x57 Mauser, 139 grain Hornady's over 50 grains of H4350. I get 2850 fps over the speed meter with this load. Barrel length is 22 inch.

Looks like a decent load to me. Two powders that have the reputation of giving higher than usual velocities from the 7x57 Mauser round are H-414 and W-760.I have gotten 2800 FPS with W-760 and the 140 gr. Nosler ballistic tip from my 22" barreled Winchester M70 Feather weight. I did reach 2880 FPS, but it was about 105 in the shade that day, maybe even a bit hotter and I was starting to see pressure signs at that level so settled for the 2800 FPS load. That 2800 FPS load is a bit too hot for my custom FN Mauser with it's very tight chamber.
I have loaded some 170 gr. Sierra round nose bullets and they're duecedly accurate. Three shot groups run from .375" to .50" at 100 yards. I have not chronogaphedthat load yet, but I imagine it's close to the original factory spec of 1893. That's really not a bad place the be as that is the load the cartridge earned it's reputation. I hate to do a lot of experimenting with that bullet as it's been off the market for quite a while now. I think though that I can work up to about 2500 FPS without running into any problems and suffice for most of my hunting with the 7x57.
