As I'm supposed to be in the know about things Archery related...this year seems to be a 'spoiler' for me. I've looked and looked, but can't find a thing that is getting me 'excited'....
So I'll ask the forum: Have you seen anything you just can't live without this year?

No. The last few years new ideas/products were coming out left and right. I guess they run out of ideas until the next advance in technology.

This is an interesting subject to me as I'm now in possesion of my Dads archery equipment and have been wanting to try them out. He was an avid archer who went all over the state of Virginia hunting everything from deer to bear. He still tells stories of his hunting trips with new, but delightful embelishments each time. He's just about to turn 80 years old and isn't able to pull back on those bows anymore, but he's always trying to talk me into going hunting with him. He says, "I'll just help you watch for anything, but you can shoot it".
Sure, he had all the latest compound bows and crossbows that were available to him at the time, but he really enjoyed using a plain, old-fashioned longbow. He was pretty good with one too. Granted he was no Robin Hood, but somehow I like to think he imagined himself that way.
So, to answer your question....
This year for me, what's old is new agian. I think crossbows and compound bows are great technology, but I think my Dad may have been on to something when he began using a longbow all those years ago. I think the skill needed to use an old-fashioned longbow to bring down an animal like a bear must be greater than using new-age, high-tech archery equipment. Aquiring these skills appeals to me on many levels, but mainly because I think it will be a wonderful thing to go out with my Dad and do a little hunting with a longbow before he's no longer around.
Here's to no regrets, Gents...
Heath
